Dude, you have a right to like Zidane, however, do look up 96-02, the period Rivaldo played for Depor and Barcelona. That was the peak of his career and I think he easily surpassed whatever Zidane has done.
Zidane is most famous for his WC exploits, so consider Rivaldo's performance in the 2002 WC, Zidane hasn't done anything like that. IMO Rivaldo was the best player in that tourney, although Kahn was a decent choice as well.

I only saw rivaldo with barca and no doubt he was incredible, arguably the best in the world in 99-2000, but he was not consecutively better than zidane imo from 98-03. Zidane had a way of improving everyone on his team to a level that was not duplicated by anyone else during that time.

Rivaldo was incredible with Barca for his whole stay dude.

Right, but his best years were in 99-00, where i could see how people would say he was better than zidane, but over that whole time period (98-03), absolutely not.

When were Zidane's best years?

phil80, try reading what people have posted instead of spouting your continued ignorance. Every single post you make only further highlights your lack of knowledge and level of maturity. No-one is saying you cannot like Zidane but you need to separate aesthetics from reality when comparing him to other players. Rivaldo was better overall and Mendieta had roughly the same peak years. Those are two examples and there are countless more. Look into their careers, read what people have said about them and look for footage. Your continued 'I love Zidane and everyone else must be wrong' argument will not work here.

Once again, completely delusional Teso. You are seriously confusing your ridiculous posts with mine. If you are going to choose to attack people atleast have something intelligent to say. Your inane motto "try reading before posting" is overused and pathetic, nothing original to contribute i suppose. To claim zidane is simply an aesthetics player, just got lucky to be on good teams, and is a dirtier player than materazzi (your stupidest claim as of yet) is beyond ignorant and just plain laughable. You continue to amaze and it's the reason noone takes you seriously.

Riquelme >>> Zidane
Riquelme is the greatest football player I have seen (I was very young when Maradona played, so I won't count him to that list)

Zidane, Riquelme has not come through in big games with Argentina or in Europe.

Noone would ever consider Riquelme better than Zidane except argentinan biaised fans and Teso who is a notourious Zidane hater (he manages to always jump on any thread in which the word "Zidane" appears, spreading his hate) and, more generaly, most french players.

This is the funniest thing I've seen posted

Boca Juniors 2-1 Real Madrid 2000
i'll leave it at that since I could put a couple of more as well

I said in Argentina(national team) and Europe.
By the way I don't hate Riquelme, he's a great player and he'll get his one of these days, but at the moment Zidane is a better choice.
In which tournament did they beat Real Madrid?

Probably the intercontinental rubbish which is nothing more than an inconvenience for European teams.
Cant believe this stupid thread is still going. Zidane put in consistent match winning performances for Juventus in the Champions League for five years, the highest level of football any player can reach. Riquelme has not even come close to that.
Even if you just look at attributes. I dont see what Riquelme has over Zidane?? football brain? creativity? close call definatly but then you just look at what Zidane had over Riquelme, he completely two footed, hard, tough and fast, yes fast, watch his Juventus days when he used to burn past players.

Five years might be a bit of a stretch. Juventus only won 2 CL games in 98/99 and 1 in 00/01. They weren't even in the competition in 99/00.

It was 10 years ago, I just remember watching that Juve side of the 90's and Zidane and Davids always looked a class above everyone else on the field. 5 years maybe a stretch but it is still more than what Riquelme has done in the worlds best football tournament.

This is complete bullshit. It's the excuse Europeans use to make them still feel that they are superior to South American footie when they get beat in this tournament.
If Europeans don't care then explain the following:
1) Barcelona players crying after getting beat by Internacional (BRA)
2) Real Madrid coach saying that the worse day of his coaching career at Real Madrid was when he lost to Boca Juniors 2-1
3) Del Piero said that in his club career, his most memorable game was when he scored in the 1-0 win over River Plate (1996)
4) See #1 and add various other European teams
i'll just leave you to dwell over those for now

I have to agree with User Name.
The Intercontinental Cup is played after the European season is over and the South American season is in full swing, and European players really have little incentive to win. Not to mention, basing your opinion of two teams on one game is also incorrect, remember, MLS teams also beat european teams in friendlies.
Just think of it this way, if you were a top Argentine Player, would you rather be earning millions in Europe or less than one million in Argentina? (remember, Rodrigo Palacio is the highest paid player in Argentina).

Proof? Sources?
Fact: Intercontinental cup games are not even broadcast in Europe.
