May he rest in peace...

I just heard that he presented respiratory complications.

Tragic news on top of the jubilation for the achievement of today.

Even stranger, I clicked on soccernet.com and the headline story was about Man City trying to make a deal to keep Foe in England next season...

The doctors were very slow.

After some minutes they should have had recognized that its serious!

And one of them even fell down when carrying him!

PS: Hopefully Fifa will think about this tournament again! Its unnecessary and takes the essential vacation from the players.

Tragic, tragic!

Condolences to all of Cameroon, who was certainly putting in a good show at CC.

That's so bizarre, but I guess life (well, death, too) is like that.

Sad.

Who hit him? And how?

This report (http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=ap-ccup-cameroon-foe&prov=ap&type=lgns) says "He was carried off on a stretcher to the sideline where he received treatment, including mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and oxygen." But that wasn't clear from watching it on TV. My guess is that he didn't get oxygen until he was in the lockerroom, at least five minutes after collapsing.

Regardless of the cause of death (my guess is probably aneurysm or maybe supplement-related), there are ambulances at the stadiums for a reason and it was obvious that this was a case where you stop the match and drive it onto the field to administer care to the player.

This f---ing ref, stops the game, gets the stretcher to take him to the sideline and allows substitutions to occur while he's being carried off (not for him - for another guy), and then resumes the game with maybe two minutes of stoppage. And then they're working on him roughly six yards from the pitch while play is going on. They're shoving a breathing tube down his throat and the ball could come by at any time and disrupt their work. They carried him into the tunnel about five minutes later, with his feet elevated.

There will be some serious fallout for FIFA for the way this was handled - high school football games have better EMT work than what was done here.

don't they have ambulances at the game?

Galavision didn't show any hit to the back of the head, just him staggering and falling, then an appalling close-up that I pray won't be repeated.

And as I said in another thread, the EMTs took forever out there. Not even any oxygen on him. Stretchered out of the stadium, too, no cart.

The most horrifying thing I've ever seen.

It's bad....It's a tragedy. Apparently he just fell down unconciously for no reasons....I think that he died by the sidelines. There's not enough time to rush him to the hospital. Condolences to his family and Cameroon's team.

Absolutely dreadful. They are reporting he was 28.

I couldn't imagine having to go out and play if I was on the French or Turkish teams.

tomvandamm,

i don't think a time like now is appropriate to debate Foe's age... (born in 1975)...the man has passed. he will be truly missed from the international game.

There was NO oxygen on him as the four fat guys carried him down the sideline with his arm dangling over one side of the stretcher.

Subs went on as normal.

Only a tongue-holder.

Do they not know what Emergency Medical Treatment means in France?

If there wasn't a hit, and the article says heart - possibilities include:

Heretofore unknown heart condition - ala Hank Gathers

Overwork while on a stimulant, such as ephedra, caffiene, even, or amphatamines - ala Korey Stringer

Cocaine - ala Len Bias

In either of the first two cases, the medical care could be at fault - for not diagnosing a predisposition in the first place, and then not reacting to the seriousness of the problem.

Wow, I'm so stunned right now...this is truly a sad day...

I don't know what to say...he was a rising star for this team, and was so young...just so so sad...

Could it have been heat stroke? I'm hearing that noone hit him.
