i was reading a question/answer thing w/ the commissioner at

http://www.mlsnet.com/chat/2007/07/garber/

and on the 8th question, i think, someone asked about possible expansion cities. he listed like 10....and phoenix wasnt one of them. are we not in the race anymore? :(

I wouldn't believe what anyone, including Garber, has to say about the situation. The city that will get the team will be the one that ponies up the expansion fee, has a concrete stadium deal in place and has an I/O set up, not the ones making all the fuss in the media.

Welcome to the circus that is..........MLS expansion hopes. It's a sick game that the League plays with potential cities.

I can't speak to Garber's thinking or what his expansion plans are, but this article (http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/story/93496) mentions that the local PHX Soccer Development is working hard below the radar.

In addition to Mesa, Gagnon is also looking at Chandler and Tempe, as well as the Central Valley, and plans to pitch a number of options to MLS President Mark Abbott in the fall.

MLS is certainly taking notice of efforts in the Valley. We just need to keep up the fan support when given opportunities such as Copa PanAmericana and the Chivas road trip in September, and let Dana and his group do the business-side legwork.

He still refers to Phoenix (http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12216583&postcount=93)
