Now this can be a touchy topic and i like the OFC qualifying but here is a better way for all of the confederations. Myself and a friend of mine have come up with a brilliant way of world cup qualification.
Have like a World League that every team plays the same amount of friendlies that count to a ranking and then the top 27 teams qualify for the next world cup (1 hosts) the remaining 4 (29-32) play teams that ranked 33-36 in a 2 leg playoff and the winners of the play offs qualify to the world cup.
The difficulty is trying to arrange every FA from playing friendly after friendly and there are a lot of countries so that could be a problem.
This would reveal the best 32 teams straight way and show top class nations in the biggest competition in the world.
So what do you all think?

Good Idea!
This would guarantee that only top teams would be at the World Cup.
Perhaps the number of games to play would be a little to high.
But also the surprises would be minimized.
I mean we all like to see teams like Jamaica, Costa Rica, Usa etc. at the World Cup.
Those outsiders make it fun!

Yes that is the beauty of the World cup but an 8-0 win is no suprise (Ger v KSA anyone?) The amount of games and nations are the problem for this not to work.

Ideally, this idea could work, but realistically, it will never happen. There are over 200 nations that compete in qualifying for the World Cup Finals. There would be way too many matches, and I really don't know how you could make it fair unless every team played every other team once and that's impossible. And they really wouldn't be friendlies either, they would basically be qualifiers.
Having confederations is just ultimately more fairer, and more organized. As far as OFC is concerned, their system is much better this time but really shouldn't be getting that 1 full spot, it's just not fair to the rest of the world.

Yes but this idea mainly attempts to put more emphasis on the national sides. What about CONCACAF? They also have a somewhat unfair system like the OFC. USA and Mexico are the only nations that qualify regularly leaving one spot for the suprise nation to enter. But this can work if it is given a chance.

But how will you make a fair ranking. If some teams only play lower teams they will automatically go up in the ranking despite they might not be as good as other teams.

Yes good point.
Look at it this way points are the same (3 win, 1 draw) However to take in account lesser teams. A bonus system can be in place. Teams that are more than 10 or even 20 ranks ahead of you then not only will you win but you get double. But that could be hard to implement. So basically it is like a mega competition in a ladder format. This ensures that only the best 32 compete in the World cup.
Read the way of the qualifers in my earlier posts.

In some parts of this model the possible play off situation the OFC were thinking I made up without knowing! so my model would be some what implemented in part! :P
