Hello.

I recently purchased a Nintendo GameCube, and I want to get a soccer game for it. Titles that I'm looking at so far include:

MLS ExtraTime 2002
FIFA Soccer 2002 (regular, not WC edition)
Redcard 20-03

The last two are available to me for about $20 if I buy used.

My inclination is to go with MLS ExtraTime 2002, since I'm mostly interested in domestic league soccer and less interested in international stuff. However, FIFA Soccer does have the MLS license.

If anybody's had a chance to play one or more of these titles (or would like to recommend an alternative that's avaliable for GC) and would like offer an opinion and/or recommendation, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

FIFA 2002 was not a good game at all. Neither was Road to world cup.

Get FIFA 2003 instead. The other games arent worth your time.

mls extratime 2002 might be favorite game of all time, but the Xbox version had a few extra things for some reason that the gamecube didn't have. Still, it's awesome.

FIFA2003 is fun too but I'd go with Extratime. Espcially since your interest is domestic league....it has all the real stadiums in MLS.

I think so, my friend was Alpha testing the thing for Acclaim two weeks ago.

anyway back to the topic - MLS extratime is the clear winner. You notice how people love Pro Evolution Soccer 2 /Winning Eleven 6? It's almost the same game, it's made by the same people.

WE6 is a better game no doubt, but the physics of the ball, the intelligent runs by your teamates, the skill moves are all very similar. The main problem with MLS is that you can't pan the camera back far enough.

I've gotta go with FIFA on this one. So do the professional reviewers:

FIFA:

ExtraTime:

Also, I have to suggest Sega Soccer Slam as a game to pick up. It's way more fun than it should be.

well judging the "pro's" to review games, especially in soccer games, is dodgy.

Fifa 2001, which is widely regarded as a joke on these boards, got a 90% from IGN.COM.

I have both Fifa 2003 and MLS extra time. Here is my breakdown of the two.

FIFA 2003 does have the MLS license and the flash of graphics and sound. But it is way to easy and does not really feel like a tight osccer game. Goal keepers are easily fooled and positioning is a bit sketchy.

Extratime, on the other hand, is not as flashy, but does play more realistically and intelligent keepers. It is a bit dated as far as rosters go, but an overall fun game...plus great spanish commentary by Luis Tapia...GOOOOOOOLL!!!

Fifa 2004 coming out later this year does look promising and it looks as if EA is really improving on the gameplay mechanics and ball physics. Probably because of the comparisons to the most realistic soccer game out there, Winning Eleven 6. Maybe go for Extra Time to satisfy your Soccer Game fix for now before Fifa 2004 is out.

Here's the FIFA 2004 site:

you should get winning eleven 6 final evolution for gamecube.

you just have to buy a freeloader disc for 20$.
this allows you to play import games, then just import winning eleven 6 final evolution. it cost about 60$ but its well worth it

yes the game is in japanese, but after awhile you get use to it. its alot of trial and error at first but eventually you will be able to understand the japanese text. just because its in japanese shouldn't dissuade you from getting the best soccer game around

fifa 2003 is about the best soccer game i can find for gamecube and they do have an mls license. The only thing is it's not that hard and you really have to play on the hardest mode to get much of a challenge. Also, if you win tournements you can get some extra stadiums and such which is a simple, but nice feature.
