I saw Jerry Yang at dinner with his family. Sitting at the Mah Jong, the Chinese restaurant at the Rio, he was guarded by his agent Oliver Tse who wouldn't let anyone talk to him.
I know Oliver is a poker player himself, and from California - so this must be him. Jerry Yang.
Are we allowed to say Oliver's name here? Mod's please move if in the wrong place, I just figured these people would be the most interested. :)
By the way, Jerry Yang at one point had half of the remaining chips - not so much anymore but he still has a big chip lead:
12:05 a.m. Updated chip counts:
After Kravchenko took down a pot off of Yang, here's where we stand:
Jerry Yang: $57.675 million
Raymond Rahme: $33.2 million
Tuan Lam: $22.65 million
Alexander Kravchenko: $13.95 million

And now Soccertv.com is for sale becuase he is going to stay the poker guy for the upcoming season. He has been trying to sell it for over a year.
Is it possible that soccertv.com is fading away?

From Soccertv.com mailer:
Dear soccerTV Update subscribers:
As some of you may already know, I opened Oliver Tse Management Group,
an agency representing professional poker players, in September 2006 with my first (and now former) client being a Mandarin Chinese-speaking female professional poker player who won her first televised tournament in Los Angeles last August.
During the 2007 World Series of Poker (WSOP) in Las Vegas during the past 7 weeks, I have been busy securing endorsement opportunities for several players, including 3 out of the 9 players who were at the WSOP World Championship Main Event Final Table on July 17-18.
One of the players for whom I secured an endorsement agreement for the duration of the 2007 WSOP Main Event, a Hmong refugee who escaped Laos named Jerry Yang (NOT the co-founder/CEO of Yahoo) who now lives with his wife and 6 children in Southern California, became the 2007 World Champion of Poker on the morning of July 18, remarkably on his first ever attempt in a major land-based poker tournament.
He parlayed a $225 investment in a satellite tournament to win his $10000 seat into the 2007 WSOP Main Event, where he ultimately achieved his "American Dream" by winning $8.25 million by outlasting a field of 6358 players.
He has informed me that he wants to retain my services for the
2007-2008 professional tournament poker season.
I have been exploring the sale of soccerTV.com and soccerTV Update for the past 15 months. His decision to hire me to represent him has the effect of accelerating the sale process.
I am evaluating all available options, including the sale of all SoccerTV-branded properties (website, domain names, trademark, and newsletter subscribers) as a single unit to another company.
I will continue to operate soccerTV.com and soccerTV Update to serve users and subscribers in the United States market until the properties are sold.
(Unfortunately, I had to discontinue soccerTV.com and soccerTV Update service in Canada as of July 1 due to time constraints and the relative lack of revenue opportunties in the Canadian market.)
Thank you very much for your understanding, and thank you for using soccerTV.com and soccerTV Update for the past 13 years.
Sincerely,
Oliver Tse

Let me go look under my couch cushions. I'll offer him half of what I find.
Looks like he is making friends on the poker boards:

I picked this up on the soccertv web site. I feel bad for all of you in Canada as I find his website very reliable. Hopefully he does not discontinue the whole site: Simon t

It's a rather bizarre story that he's put up on his website. You've got to check it out.
I've used it for a long time, and it still is a great place to find broadcasts of soccer matches in this country. That's a nice site you've got there, Oliver. How much does something like that go for? (Preparing for sticker shock.)

Personal issues aside, the internet property "SoccerTV.com" definitely has decent value. He has created a marketable brand.

Yep, thanks Oliver for doing what you've been doing for this long.
I do hope it doesn't go under and keeps up.
Millions have probably bookmarked it and check it regularly as I do.

oh god damnit, i know you may find this ridiculous but you just spoiled the winner of the WSOP. That wasn't going to be aired until well into the fall. I've edited the post accordingly.

So I wonder if this is a typical agent kind of deal. I mean does Oliver really get 15% of the $8.25 million that his client won?? That's crazy. Hell, he should just give SoccerTV.com away. He's rich, beyotch!!

I would imagine he wouldn't get any of the winnings (it's not like you need an agent to get into the WSOP), but that he would get a percentage of any deals he helps secure.

This is most likely. If anyone is giving 15% of their poker winnings away, they won't be a pro for long.

Here's an update, send to me by OldFanatic (who can't post for some reason):
http://www.thepokerbiz.com/2007-wsop/oliver-tses-big-day-at-the-2007-world-series-of-poker
Tse got deals for Alex Kravchenko, Jerry Yang and Philip Hilm with Full Tilt Poker potentially worth hundreds of thousands of dollars depending on their final table finish. With Tse’s ten percent scalp he found himself in position to earn as much as six figures for 48 hours worth of work.

It's funny that soccertv finally spoiled something for me - I usually try to avoid the winner until it airs. Oh well.

A lot of these guys are staked. Most professionals in individual sports are backed in some capacity until they reach the highest levels.
For example, the average PGA tour player outside the top 40 probably pays out a significant cut of winnings in exchange for up front money for expenses and such.

Oliver continues to make friends in the poker world.
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/news-views-gossip/ftp-drops-pro-jj-liu-303844/
Cliff Notes: Oliver spreads rumors about a former client of his, gets called out by almost everyone for his unprofessionalism (even if what he said is 100% true, someone who claims to be a poker agent should not be throwing present or former clients under the bus), and guarantees that almost anyone who reads the twoplustwo forums (poker's version of BigSoccer) will never seek his poker agent services if they are ever in the position to require one.
