A tribute to Georgie Best

Georgie best passed away in November of 2005, right around the time our team was snatched away from us.

I think it would be fitting to pay tribute to this Earthquakes legend, and legend of the game, on opening night of the San Jose Earthquakes 2008 home season.

awesome falvo, and that in a nutshell is why i have been a football fanatic all my life. Georgie was my introduction to the game back in 60's with United and i couldn't have had a better one.

In today's Mercury News Sports section on page 1 there are two pictures of George Best playing for the San Jose Earthquakes. In one photo he gets a hug from Peter Lecherman in a 5-1 Quakes win at Spartan Stadium either around the end of June or early July 1980. The other pic I believe is from 1981. I can't find the article or the pictures on line but I'll try and download them.

No offense to George Best, but, I think Opening Night 2008 belongs to the likes of Lew Wolff and SSV. I would rather see Georgie honored on a night where they can wear the red NASL retro-jerseys. Maybe against a Portland Timber or Seattle Sounder team also wearing retro-jerseys.:cool:

The tribute to George Best should come during the first of the 2-3 annual Turn Back the Clock home games.

Excuse my ignorance and I mean no offense to anyone but after having posted 9,098 total posts since 2005 and after having approached almost 200 total reps (actually 199 hint hint ;)) and seeing my favorite player die and my favorite team leave & then revived, can someone please explain to me what the real meaning of STICKY is Charlie Brown? When I think Sticky I think of many different things & meanings! :D

Awesome idea. I think every game of the 2008 season should somehow celebrate a special event and person in Earthquake's history. A perfect way to celebrate our past and forge a link to our future as a soccer club and a great history lesson for our new fans!
