View Full Version : Going in as a group...

So short of offering people money, WTF will it take to get the Riders to walk into the stadium as a group? We get about 20 of us each game to go in, and it's a great way to first of all, announce that a good number of the diehards are now coming in, but it also gets the people as they're walking in along with us to join in on the singing.
We leave about 25-30 minutes before the game, so it's not like people are missing out on a huge chunk of the tailgate.
Am I missing something? Am I just wrong? Should we all just walk in 10 minutes into the game like Rev Army does so we can all make sure to have that one last beer?

I'll give you two answers:
The two-word answer: Assigned Seats
Yep - back in the good ole' days no one had to worry about claiming a seat so it didn't matter too much as to what time you went in as long as you got there for the opening kickoff.
The three word answer: Three Hour Tailgate
A little extra time to sneak in that last beverage, or in my case, to let the grills cool off, would be a big help.
That's just two ideas off the top of my head, not necessarily plausible, but something to get started on....

A three hour tailgate would definitely be good. But you're not the issue, because you usually have actually gone in before us. I'm more wondering about the majority of the Riders that are going in after the 25-30 minute mark.

I was actually thinking of people who head in early who might want to tailgate/socialize a bit longer if they didn't have to run in to get seats....

That is why I generally am not part of the entry march, although last game we sort of joined in because we were late and you guys were hanging near the lighthouse.
Monty, money would not help. What we need is for the first few rows of the Fort to be reserved for Riders, Rev Army, and any other hardcores. And I don't mean the flag we have draped over seats now. I mean having a security member clue them in as to the situation. My big fear is that the Beckham game will lead to a nightmare as our seats are swamped by Real Madrid-wearing posers. Though I do believe we discussed this already. Just sorta spinning things together I guess.

we just can keep attempting the walking around and telling everyone we are heading in...but we need to start early with that so people dont hear "10 minutes" when they are still cooking on their grills or whatever
For Sunday: let's say we are going in at 3:30ish
For the Beckham game: we are going in really early, like right when it opens up...

You do it like they do in Italy and enter the second the gates open.

Well, here's my deal, I would be part of the march but I usually bring a few non-soccer fans who i convince to come to the match for the tailgating. they usually aren't comftorable marching in and singing etc. a few of the guys i have brought to matches loved it once they were a part of the songs and have asked to come back to more matches so maybe someday we'll get enough of us that would want to come in.
with that said i would love a 3 hour tailgate bc if i don't show up right on time (which is usually hard because i have to coordinate picking people up at trains and coming from brookline) I don't have enough time to get all the tailgating in.

Well convince them to come for the game ... the tailgate's just a side benefit. :)

Precisely. Tailgating is fun and all but once it starts cutting into time spent at the game, it's expendable.

I totally agree. We have been going in roughly a half hour before the game for the entire season, and it seems to work well for getting seats and having a minute or two to get a beer, use bathroom etc. The tailgate IS a side benefit of going to the game, NOT the sole purpose (though I know this may sound a bit hypocritical coming from me.) The sound, sight and atmosphere generated in NJ was amazing and we all should try to plan ahead and finish our beers and cooking in time to at least go in together. I know some people want to go in early to claim seats (save some for the rest of us) and others have seats all over the stadium, but I'm sure good things will come to us if we enter and leave as a solid mass of blue.

[] Without ample amounts of meat we'd fade in the second half. [/:eek:]

As an offender, I'll say I don't know the solution. I like to hang in the lot. I can talk to people there, move around easily, drink cheaper, and spend quality time. I enjoy the tailgate as much as the game. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It's an integral part of the game to me.
I love the idea of a three, four or five hour tailgate, but we know it's not likely to help (nor likely at all). People will still go in at the last minute, including me. Until I need to go in to get good seats, I probably won't go in early. Some of us just hate to be early. I will try it out sometime this season though, I swear. That said, I have a plan for Beckham, which is to hit the dirt lot across the street with Rev Army at about 2:00 PM, then I can go in at 5:00 when the gate's open. Anyone interested in this? I know, I'm undermining the advertising value of our lot, and taking away from making a big splash for the Riders that day. That's off-topic though I think, so I won't bother getting into that too much here.
Speaking of, too bad we won't be out there making noise in the lot to show the Beckham fans what we're like.

When our team starts playing like Serie A, maybe we will go in Italian style. ;)
(No, I don't mean by fixing games)

If you marched in with us in RBNY ... we should be like that every game, not just on away trips.

How early did we go in for the game last Saturday? The teams walked out and the national anthem was playing while Garrett and I were putting up the flags.
