Not sure if this has been brought up in another forum so if it has could a mod please move......

Much is being made of the strength of United (with r without tevez) and some grumblings have even been made about three and 4 trophy haul. But in looking at the other big three and Spurs, I have to say that those teams are more than capable of winning something this term. Chelsea looks pretty deep and Arsenal does not look bad even without TH14. 'Pool also looks good for the Cup competitions at least.

Does anyone think that any one team this year will win multiple trophies? And who is our strongest contender in the champions league?

Chelsea for the treble!
But realistically, Chelsea will win 2 and Manchester United 1.

I have little doubt Chelsea will win no less than 2 trophies next season.

United just keeps getting better and better. They have a real chance of winning A LOT this season, as do my Blues.

Last season was really exciting because of the 2 horse-race almost to the end of the season. I see a 3 or possibly 4 horse-race this season. No one will have this wrapped up by Christmas this year which I think is a great thing. I see Chelsea and ManU splitting things up pretty evenly this year though Chelsea are already up one piece of silverware............

It'll be the same two for the title this year, but I think Liverpool and Arsenal will be closer to them. I think it's possible to win more than one trophy but let's get something straight:

No one will ever win the treble again!

It was a one off achievement made by a one off team made up of uniquely talented players riding on the crest of a wave and benefitting from some extraordinary luck at times. I honestly think that Man Utd and Chelsea can invest all the money they like; they won't win it again and neither will Arsenal or Liverpool.

So, now we've come to accept that little bomb shell, I think this years title will go to Chelsea but I think Man Utd might win the CL. I'd personally like to win the title and the CL but I don't think that's possible because of the way our PL and FA like to cram in so many games towadrs the end of the season.......

Of course someone else will win the treble again. Give it time.

You not been taking your meds again, Harry? Both Chelsea and United went close TWO MONTHS AGO.

Anyone could win all 4. Anyone could win nothing. Nobody knows, that's why we watch.

Someone will win the treble again. Remember - before United did in 99 - it happened 3 other times. Granted, not in England But it has happened. I think Celtic has won it in the past!

Now the QUAD! That would be something special.

trebles are less difficult to win now than they have ever been (for english clubs, anyway). the fewer teams that are competitive, the shorter the odds. hell, the even the most competitive sides in the league cup are the big clubs - and they aren't even trying!

factor in that the money in england (and the influx of foreigners*) has made english clubs more competitive than ever in europe, as well, and it's obvious.

*not that 'foreigners', per se, are the key, of course - many leagues have tons of them. but they've made the english league far less insular than it was ten years back - and far better in europe.

Couldn't disagree more. The grind of the Premiership lends itself to clubs not taking the domestic cup competitions very seriously. And the champions league is just a plain crap shoot.

Agree with you that too many games are played these days in EPL, La Liga, Seria A...

Reducing the CL to one group stage was a good idea. Unfortunately in Uefa Cup, they added a group stage, which increased the games for the teams who finish 5th to 7th or fall out of CL.

I still think that the treble will be won every once in a while, seeing as Chelsea almost did it last year, and same with ManU

Arf ... I do like the big font exclamation just weeks after not one, but two clubs were within a gnat's gonad of doing precisely that. It's entirely likely that someone
will win the treble again within five years!

United was the strongest team last season, they have done the most thus far in the off season, therefore the likley assumption is that they will be the strongest next season. The reson United was so dominant last season was because they attacked, attacked, attacked, and they scored a ton of goals. They have bolstered thier attack quite a bit and I see them winning the league this year again and another major trophy as well.

The real quesiton is who will give United the most trouble (Liverpool or Chelsea) and will Spurs be able to knock off Arsenal for that fourth spot.

Don't forget our friends in the North (NewCastle) have strenghtened thier squad quite a bit, and if Owen can stay healthy and return to the form he is capable of they could upset some apple carts as well.

It is quite possible that I bothced the question (I take penalties for England)

Mr Clark:

the issue I wanted to bring to the fore is that I beleive it will be harder to win multiple trophies. The PL is going to be more competitve bacuase the big 4 have strengthened and barring injuries should all be making a push. THE also think the league is stronger (Spurs, Pompey, and Magpies name a few and Everton as well). Those teams may not be capable of going the distance but they surely will be causing the front runners to be in danger of dropping points.

THe FA cup: the same arguments as the PL above but this time it is a one off game and the teams I mentioned above now has a shot in the knockout competition along with Blackburn. So I think this will be tightly contested.

The Carling Cup: will most of thesecond tier teams will see this as their only chance so the ones above plus Villa, Bolton (iffy though) and maybe even West Ham will have something to say here espeically with this being lowest on the big four's list.

CL: well not only will the big four compete amongst themselves and to be fair Chelsea Pool and Manu all look strong for that competion and have squads big enough to challenge in Europe. I kinda doubt the Gunners squad have that depth required for Europe (no hard evidence just personal gut on that one). Feel free to differ. Ironically, I beleive that the rest of Europe looks weaker than past years (except for AC Milan)so this year could be the year for an English club to reclaim the CL

Summary: the strength of the league will preclude any one club from winning multiple trophies. This season at least. And the stronger the league the harder to do treble or quad for that matter.

Well let's hope not. It would be nice to see the League cup go back to being a competition the big 4 chuff and the middle class and lower squads have a chance of winning.

What? That is all you gonna say? I just sat here for the last two hours trying to forumlate a proper response and that is what you came up with? Seriously, you could say "J'can you sob, you are absolutely right the competition is too strong for any one team to get the treble". You could have said that but instead you had to whatever the hell you said!!

(but you are right anyway as another poster said we dont know and that is why we watch) :p

one thing is for sure, this might be the most exciting season.............:)

No. Not this year in my opinion. But definetely in the future with the depth that Arsenal and Manchester United seem to have at the moment I think in the next 2-3 years Arsenal will be the next.
