I searched the board and didn't see this topic anywhere. But if someone has already created it, sorry for the repost.
Now that Egypt has been granted the 2009 U20 World Cup, which country do you think could/should/wants to host the U20 World Cup afterwards. Personally, I think the U.S. should make a bid for the 2011 U20 World Cup. I seriously doubt we'll get a regular World Cup until at least 2022 and a U20 will be good for the sport in the country.
Looking at this year's event in Canada, I see the size of stadiums that are suited for this tournament. All the new soccer specific stadiums (SSS) being built for MLS would be perfect for this tournament. We have a good range of capacity, from around 18,000 in Colorado to 27,000 in LA, NY, and DC. The last two are planned stadiums that will be finished by then. The league plans to be at 16 teams by 2010 and each new team must have a plan in place for a stadium. Add to that the existing teams that will have a SSS by then, and we have close to 16 stadiums perfectly suited for a U20 World Cup.
If you watched the games played in CFL stadiums, you'll notice that the stadiums are too big and look empty even with 20,000 fans in attendance. I really hope the US Soccer Federation makes a bid. What do you guys think?
EDIT: Should be 2011 and beyond. For a second I forgot its every 2 years.
