It basically allows me to manage most national teams, but there appears to be no way to manage the US. Suggestions anyone?

You need max database settings, and then you can manage the US as long as you have their league selected...

Anyway to manage the US team without using max data base? The game automatically selects the smallest data base for me (I know that I can change it, but the directions recommend against it). I have a Pentium 3, 600 megahertz, with 128 megs of RAM.

Turn off Full Detail when selecting Leagues other than the one your playing in. (i.e. Club) I wonder if u can Manage the National Team from the Beginning?

You can manage national squads from the beginning, but you have to be clever about it.
When you create a manager you cannot directly select a national team from the list of teams to select. What you need to do is click on the Nations list, navigate to the national team you wish to control, then click on "Take Control of Team".

I'll have to try that also.
I did it the Hard way. Be a Successful Club manager, then wait for Bruce to get FIRED! Jump on the Application. Hopefully the US won't think Frank Yallop or Bob Gernsler is better than you..and you should make it. Hell I got it after 1 successful year w/ Ajax. It may help to have an American or 2 on the Squad as well.

You cannot buy it in stores in America (wasn't released here). However you can buy the game off of Ebay or online British game vendors (the route I took, forget who I used.) Here's a link to the game's website:

You may want to hold off purchasing the game until the next version comes out later this year. CM4 was released in April and possessed a zillion bugs (official figure). SI fixed the vast majority of CM4's bugs and it is quite a good game. But if a new and improved game is coming out in a month or two it wouldn't make sense to buy the older one.
Warning: The game is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE

They aren't really high. Its a Text-Based Game. Ok. No Graphics at all. Other than Background Photos. Its a Sim game like Eastside Hockey Manager.
A P3-600 w/ 128MB of RAM is probably all thats' necessary for a Small Database game.
However, I have a 2.0Ghz P4 w/ 512MB of RAM. I play Max Database w/ Full Detail off. I've got about 12 Nations and 25 leagues running. Soon I'll be getting more RAM so I can simulate the Phillipino League if I wanted to.
BTW, managing the US NT is kinda boring because you don't get to train them or Schedule Friendlies.

Yeah, it seems in my game that the USSF is addicted to Gansler. After a fourth place finish in the Gold Cup, Gansler got fired. Then after I applied, he got rehired!

Don't know for sure yet. My guess is that SI will wait for a couple of months and release a new game.

It'll most likely be a seasonal update, like 01/02 was. There'll probably be some improvements on EP5, some fixes, a data update, and (cross fingers) an editor

Ep5 is the last one. So the next update/fix/ will be CM4 03/04.
It helps to have a roster w/ some Americans on it to manage the USA NT. I had Ajax and got the job as soon as Bruce was fired. I had Memo Gonzalez, Adu, JOB, Quaranta and Tim Howard onthe Squad and I applied and they hired me.
Don't know why exactly. But I'm still US NT and in the Final Stage of WCQ the US tops the table tied w/ Mexico for 1st.

I just started playing 01/02. I purchased it a year ago but never played it until now. It's much better than CM4 IMO. It runs a lot fasters than CM4. I have all 26 countries running and it runs smooth. With CM4 you can only have 6 leagues open and it still runs slow. 01/02 is more realistic.

My machine has exactly the same spec as yours. I do have full detain off and max database as well.
It runs okay at first and then really slow down to a painful level after a few seasons.

Yes mine did get a little slower too. But I've been tinkering w/ my system for the past week or so. I figured its because more players enter the database after a few seasons.
But my game did crash I think at this one point, but My PC was running a little hot. I'm trying to fix it today/tomorrow. I've only used this setting for 2 full seasons with excellent speed. I'm now in the 05/06 campaign.
Plus I've got 2 teams. I don't agree about CM 01/02 mainly because I haven't played it, and its based on an older engine. I'm not sure if 03/04 is gonna be a full game or expansion.
CM4 is easily the buggiest version ever. IMHO.
