View Full Version : What if no one steps up?

I was recently thinking about this. Let's say a throw-in or a dead ball is called for Team A. What is the protocol if no one from that team steps up to take it? Does the ref book someone for timewasting?

Assuming your game and player management have not prevented this situation...

I'd say pick the nearest player to the restart, and a caution for DR (delayed restart). Haven't ever seen this hypothetical.

I think jumping right to the card would not be the best idea for game management in most cases. You'd be better off picking the closest player and tell them to take get the restart going and maybe mention that you're adding time.

I'd tell the nearest player to take the restart. If not, throw him a caution.

But be careful you have not already cautioned him before.:D

could also be a situation to use the captain, he's "suppose to be" the leader.

I'd say pick someone on a card, just the threat might get things moving a little quicker. :D

I'll warn him before, maybe. If he's dumb enough to disobey my instructions while already sitting on a yellow, i say he's worthy of my back pocket.

That just gives me the thought of some one constantly chucking yellow cards at a player until they comply, I'd actually like to see that :D.

Opps! Sorry folks. I pointed the wrong way. Other team's throw-in. :D

Unfortunately that would be unethical.:D

We are about crime and punishment, not revisionist history.

Tell a player from that team to get someone to take the throw. If no one does, tell the captain that someone has to take the throw or the game will be abandoned. At that point, if they still refuse to play, abandon the match....

and run like hell.

Thats a bit of an overkill. I would caution the closest player or if telling their captain to do something, then caution the captain.
