Do you have any sources on this?

Source? Please don't post a blog. I only question it because it is not a Wenger or Arsenal type transfer, for a number of reasons. What happened to Barca agreeing a deal ages ago? Did Boca not agree a deal with the other clubs who owned his rights?

I agree... It doesn't sound like one of our signings. Also depends on what monetary unit he's talking about. 21 mil pounds is very anti-Wenger, so is 21 million Euros... 21 million dollars not quite as bad... That's cheaper than the oft-rumored Martins fee. Still, sounds false.

Wow...

Arsenal got robbed. The due can't finish. He'll miss 15 shots to score one. Arsenal should have been after Tevez not Palacio....

According to the English newspaper The Sun, it would seem a done deal (although it should be added that The Sun is not exactly world renowed for the accuracy of it's reporting) and should be tied up in the next few days.

As for this not being a Wenger type signing, I wouldn't be to sure, the one thing Wenger looks for in his players (especially attackers) is pace, Palacio has plenty of that. It would be a good move for Palacio, because if anyone can make him a better player it's Wenger.

This is insanity. I love Palacio but there is no way he's an EPL type player.

Just because a player has pace he is immediately a Wenger type signing? I think not. There are numerous reasons for that including his nationality, the type of player he is, the risk associated with him having to adapt, the cost, the fact that he is outwith Wenger's usual signing locations, the fact that he is not French/African, etc, etc.

Wenger is not infallible, he paid 10 million pounds for Francis Jeffers.

Anyway, we don't know if Arsenal are going to sign him and if they do presumably we'll have to see how he gets on before deciding if he is a bad buy or not.

This is from www.arseonline.com:

transfer record £15 million bid By IKE !Date: 16/7/2007News has reached us that AFC will smash its transfer record by spending £15 million on Argentine goal machine Rodrigo Palacio. Reports in Argentina say Palacio, 25, will fly to London tomorrow for a medical after Boca Juniors accepted Wengers bid.

Palacio will wear the No 14 shirt that Thierry had, the same number that Palacio wears for both Boca and Albiceleste.Barcelona had previously agreed a £15 millon deal for Palacio immediately before hearing that long-term target Henry was finally ready to move. Boca's president, Mauricio Macri, has stated Palacio is by far the best striker in Argentine football.Huracan and Banfield, both of Palacio's former clubs, will receive a portion of what will be the biggest transfer fee ever paid by Arsenal.Palacio was a member of the Argentina squad that reached Sunday's Copa America final, but didn't play in the 3-0 defeat by winners Brazil. He is said to keen to prove himself in Europe after being a member of Argentina's 2006 World Cup squad in Germany where he was cover for Hernan Crespo and Carlos Tevez - both of whom have made an impact in the Premiership.Palacio has scored 39 goals in 79 appearances for Boca and has won five Argentine caps, linking up with Tevez in Argentina's attack in their 1-0 Copa America victory over Paraguay on July 5th.Arsenal have already spent an estimated £20 million this summer on striker Eduardo Da Silva, full-back Bacary Sagna, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and full-back Havard Nordtveit. Buying Palacio for £15 million would shatter the club's previous record outlay of £12.5 million paid to Bordeaux for Sylvain Wiltord in 2000.

Indeed. I don't personally think he will be a bad signing but he is definitely not a typical one for Wenger and Arsenal.

I would imagine they're going to pair him up with Adebayor since Palacio needs a tall forward who's good with head to partner up with.

Then what's going to happen to Van Persie? Unless they paid 15m just to have him come off the bench.

The thing to remember is that you have Adebayor, Da Silva and Bendtner as strikers, with Van Persie and Walcott who can either play upfront or as forwards/wingers. I do not see a place for Palacio unless he is forced wide and Arsenal play a 4-3-3. Even then that means dropping several first team players from last season. When you take the African Cup of Nations into account that still only means losing Adebayor from their offensive line-up. They are well stocked.

Can he play as a wing forward in a 4-3-3? Becuase im thinking maybe AW is thinking of going to that. RVP, Walcott, Palacio, Da Silva playing as wing forwards and Bentdner, Adebayor playing as forwards... Only thing i can think of.

Yes he can. Through the wings is where he likes to attack the most. It's good if you have a CF that's good in the air because Palacio loves to break free through the wings and send crosses. He's had tons of assists like that sending crosses to Palermo.
