What were the real reasons that Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA were at the Red Bulls game on Saturday?

A few questions:

1) Is it a coincidence that all three of those pageants are owned and operated by Donald Trump?

2) Is it possible the Donald Trump is sniffing around MLS for possible investment purposes?

3) Is it possible that the Red Bull Corporation realizes they may have made a mistake buying this franchise and are looking for a local buyer to relieve their millions of dollars in losses?

4) Is it possible that MLS Headquarters is not happy with the way Red Bull has run the show since taking over the team in 2006 and the league is trying to attract Donald Trump to take over?

5) Is it possible that MLS is cozying up to Trump because no one knows Manhattan real estate better than The Donald, and that's truly where MLS would like to build a soccer specific stadium for their New York franchise?

6) Is it possible that Donald Trump never emotionally got over his USFL debacle (remember he owned the NJ Generals), and sees MLS as a way to own a sports team in Giants Stadium again?

7) Is it possible, now that David Beckham has arrived, that star-f***ers like Trump are seeing MLS as a possible cash cow?

Ladies and Gentlemen, that visit by those beauty queens wasn't just a little personal appearance. There were far "cooler" places for those women to show up in the New York Metropolitan area this weekend, but yet they chose the Red Bulls game.

Read between the lines. There's more here than meets the eye.

trump has had some weird endeavors as of late, he dipped into the WWE scene for about a month, and i belive he has his own steaks now. i can easily see him buying out NY and getting a superstar forward to attract crowds

Isn't Trump looking to sell off his AC properties?

With what phantom 3rd DP slot that can impossibly fit under the salary cap?

They have a Reality TV show coming up on Cable. They was also on WOR radio talking soccer (and the show) earlier in the day. Miss Universe wasn't at the radio station

The New York Trumps :D

I would never have thought of it, but it's even worse than having an Austrian company with no ties to our region owning and naming our only team.

on one hand, he is a good salesman and knows how to present a product. On the other hand, didn't his casinos go bankrupt? Isn't he the one selling steaks and water and an university?
Can fans stand all the Trump jokes from rivals?

lol, I seriously doubt he has anything in mind about the MLS

Dog, your reasons 3&4 are way off. RB aren't in this just to get out quick. No way. They've made long-term investments that ensure our club won't assume a revisionist identity or any other such fantasy.

Trump would never buy into MLS because he would never have his hands tied by a salary cap and DP slots.

I think there were a couple of things raised last night because of the "babes", but they weren't questions. :D

The difference between Red Bull and Trump is that Trump would know what he'd be getting himself into. There's no doubt that Red Bull did not clearly understand the limitations of the salary cap.

Also, they came into this not understanding the mentality of the "American fan". They put out Shakira last year and were genuinely stunned that this didn't sell out the stadium.

Despite the "Beckham rule", I don't believe that Trump would want to be involved in a league that is still as restrictive as MLS. If he truly misses the sports scene, he's had numerous chances since the USFL days of buying an NBA or NFL team.

Dog, your reasons 3&4 are way off. RB aren't in this just to get out quick. No way.

Consider this quote from our illustrious leader Marc de Grandpre from a May 22nd article on bigapplesoccer.com:

"We're not going to steer off course just yet," he [de Gradpre] said. "But if we win consistently this year and we make a run for it in the playoffs, and we still can't get fans there, we're going to have to readjust our strategy in '08 and beyond."

That's not very confident language. That's the type of language you use to let the market know that you may be interested in cutting bait.

And so far, the fans are not showing up. 13,000 on an absolutely stunningly beautiful summer evening at Giants Stadium, with a first place team (the Red Bulls) battling the second place team (New England), is a horrendous attendance count. Especially when the league is on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Bull corporation is getting cold hooves. And I wouldn't be surprised if Donald Trump might believe that soccer is the way to take his business international.

I suspect a rebranding is about a year-or-two away again.

Trump Stadium has a nice sound to it. I am hoping for Mark Cuban to buy us and then take on the MLS rules and refs. What a show it would be.

I honestly didn't understand the point of this thread until I read this line, because I wanted so much to believe this wasn't going to be about bringing back the Cosmos.

God, I feel awful for getting that wrong. It will never happen again.

You are taking that quote completely out of context and then running away with a non sequiter. By steering off course he was responding to a question over whether or not they needed to plaster RBNY images all over midtown (might even have been Times Sq. in the question, iirc).

A readjustment of strategy would not mean rebranding. Get real. And the 14K who showed up the other day won't result in any readjustment, either.

You're thinking of this week-to-week but they are thinking longer term than year-to-year.

Are you really so blinded by your love for the name Cosmos that you think they would change the team's identity before moving into Red Bull Park???

No fing way.
