One goal I also remember that was broadcasted all over the world: Guy Hellers' goal vs the Czech Republic in 1995. Luxembourg, one of the last true minnows in European football, beat the Czechs (the later vice-champions of the world) and Hellers scored the winner in the last minute of the game. I cannot find a video of the goal unfortunately on YouTube  But the victory of tiny Luxembourg over the strong Czechs was world news and the goal was broadcasted all over the world.

Interesting sidefact: Luxembourg needed to wait 12 years until their next victory (2-1 vs Gambia) and the Czech Republic never lost a Euro qualifier again. Which just shows how historical that Luxembourg victory was that night. If anyone has a video of that goal then please put it on YouTube as I'd love to see it again after all those years.

In a way, I guess Greece's winner vs Portugal in the Euro2004 final was a shocker as well as before the tournament nobody gave the Greeks any chance of even surviving the first round. They however shocked the world and won the tournament against all odds...

can anyone tell me which are the 10 goals?? Slow connection here.

Is the Uruguay goal over Brazil in the 1950 Brazil World Cup here??? I mean... the goal which gave Brazil the 2nd place in front of 200 thousand of its own supporters in the brand new Maracana stadium... it shook the world.

I don't remember seeing it in there. This list is somewhat centric on things that happened to British teams.

- WC 66 Final
- Beckham goal that took them to WC 2002 (BFD)
- Scotland goal in 78 against Holland (nice goal ... but sitll  )
- Maradona goals against England in 86
- Rossi's goals against Brazil 82
- Saudi Arabia goal against Belgium 94
- Letchkov goal against Germany in 94 QF
- Ahn goal against Italy in 2002 R16

Don't remember the other 2.

well that doesn't supprise me as this was a british show lol.

i do agree with some of them
Maradona yes defo gr8 goal well actually both goals are rather important lol.
beckhams goal wasn't actuallyin a world cup but it was a very special goal nay way. no they didn't have then uraguay goal in there.

to be honest i wud have choosen a few different goals but they might have not been so ironic or interesting so you dont want to put them in a tv show as people wont watch it. i think the brazil goal against italy should have been there(1970 final you al know which one i mean).

yeah that tit with the glasses just annoyed me. hes trying to be funny but hes just a tosser.

They're nearly all 'comedians' of some description although some I've never heard of and most don't have a career these days. Oh, and they only bothered to interview people from London  the voiceover is northern though :D

no, they were mostly career changing/political impacting/upset goals, not necessarily the best. And they're all World Cup goals.

Yeah, I instantly thought of Ben Elton when he opened his trap.

Good grief that guy deserves to be dropped off a very high building. Twice. About the documentary, some good selections. But like someone said, there is a slight tendency towards goals that somehow involved the british.

I don't really have a problem with that as much as I have a problem with presenting Argentina - England to be the greatest football rivalry as an undisputable fact. its up there, but there are others.

I liked the vids but like you said, very, very British. I can understand Maradona's hand of god + Hurst's winner being included. But come on? David Beckham vs. Greece? How was that a goal that "shook the world" ... great goal and performance but that was a world cup qualifier and defeat would have only seen England slip into the playoffs - not eliminated from the WC. And Scotland vs Holland - that was mearly a consolation goal as Scotland still went out.

Why not Pele vs Sweden? Van Basten vs. USSR? or hell, even Ronaldo / Rivaldo combination in 2002.

it's a tv show. They get a production team to select their most memorable goals, and give it a hyperbolic title, mainly because "Goals that some blokes you've never heard of think are great" isn't such a good title. There will always be a bias towards the nation where those who invent such a list are from, partly because goals which are personal will just be etched in the memory deeper, and seem more important as a consequence.

Still, things are improving. On youtube somewhere you can find the BBC's World Cup '82 highlights - 1/2 an hour with Jimmy Hill on that tournament which starred England, Scotland, N.Ireland, and some other teams now and then.
