If you can't beat em, join em. Rather than be "resentful" of Mexican influence, culture, and Mexican fans in the United States, I thought I might build bridges by acquainting myself with Mexican soccer, and by that, I must pick out a team to root for.

Don't get me wrong, I'll still root for MLS teams to beat Mexican teams, but when I watch Mexican domestic league games, I should have a dog in that fight, too.

So I decided since the vast majority of Mexicans like CD Guadalajara, that I would root for Club America.

There's several reasons to pick Club America. For one, as any fan loves to dream of being a world class footballer and playing for his favorite team, I would never be eligible to play for Guadalajara, so why make them my team? But America's crest shows the whole Western Hemisphere, and since I'm a fellow Western Hemispherian, I feel like I can be represented by them. Then they're Guadalajara Chivas' #1 rival, and #1 threat revenue-wise, as they're just as rich and powerful, so they're the best equipped of any Mexican club to consistently challenge for the title. Plus if they want to sign an Argentine, a Brazilian, or even an American, if it can help them win, they can.

Plus I like their colors, I'm a Swedish-American, so I like blue and yellow, it's a nice combination (but I'm not a Galaxy fan). Also they don't have a stadium situation, as Estadio Azteca is perfect as it is for a big club, and Atlante recently vacated it for Cancun, so America has it all to themselves now.

So Club America it is. Except when they play an MLS club, or an Argentine club. But domestically, yes. Club America all the way, baby! Now me needs to get to my local Mexican neighborhood soccer fan store to get a new shirt.

You are wise. You won't regret it. You can never go wrong with Club America.

as a chivas fan, i'd like to say that you've made a good choice, for reasons you clearly understand. i will say this much about the CA tho, they will constantly break your heart.
Also you're better off with a team with players you can relate to, America goes through players like my sister goes through outfits.
also you may want to consider a team not so active in CONCACAF club tournaments given they will go through any MLS team (or atleast have done so in the past with no problem)
America will DEFINATELY have some downtime w/out their #10 this season coming.
it looks like you've made up your mind, but you might want to watch some mexican football games before you set your stakes down, as mexican soccer is not pretty (or fun) to look at.

America is it. Chivas would be your team if you were mentally challenged

Sorry, why is this in the Beautiful Game?

Sometimes I don't know where to place stuff. If I go to the Mexican soccer board, I don't know if writing in English would be responded to. And I have seen posts before on this board entitled "who to root for?" so I thought maybe here, then. Or maybe that only applies to fans wondering what English clubs to root for??

I don't know...should we only talk about what is beautiful about the game here? Because I see threads like "Top 20 soccer leagues (attendance)" or "Beckham taking field goals", or what's going on in Britain or some place, which aren't really addressing the very narrow topic of this board.

It's difficult to know where to put things at times.

This forum is meant to be about world football and generic football issues, I would have thought you were best off putting this in the Mexico forum.
