MORELIA, Mexico (AP) -- Alex Fernandes and Javier Saavedra each scored three goals as Morelia routed the Kansas City Wizards 6-1 on Wednesday in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals. ADVERTISEMENT

Dario Fabbo scored for Kansas City.

The teams will meet again Aug. 28 in the second leg at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Nah, I didn't think they looked that good in Naperville. No way that Morelia team could have scored 6 against the Fire that night.

Morelia has added some good players since they played us like internationals Saavedra & Adolfo Bautista. The Mexican League season started last weekend. I'd say Morelia is better than when they played us, but we're better too since we're healthier.

MLS clubs need to stop spitting the bit in competitive matches outside the US. AFAIK, the FIRE win at Municipal was the only MLS road win in a major competition.

Any word on how many bottles the Morelia fans threw at the Wizards players and the refs?

I never in my lifetime left a sporting event pissed and it had nothing to do with the game itself. The Fire deserved to lose the series, so thats not even an issue. Everything else I don't care about (swearing, heckling, etc). However, I am strongly opposed of throwing things onto the field.

On another note, that ref in that game was by far the best ref I've ever seen at a Fire game. He couldn't have been from the MLS, that's for sure.

Look for the Mystics to throw stuff at their own team. :p

I wonder about the water there. Gomez and Quill both had stomach pains the night before, but thanks to a thin bench due to injury and visa problems they had to play. (Morelia chose not to file paperwork for Simutenkov.)

His name is Samuel Richard, from the Dominican Republic.

Give them a break. We're so used to the Fire getting screwed by MLS's blind, drunken refs that any ref who DOESN'T screw us seems like a genius in comparison.

Now, if we are talking about the linesman on the near side of section eight that game, he was what I am used to. Luckily, he made a dubious offside call in our favor when he was clearly on. My friend and I had such discussion at half-time hoping such instance would happen...

I liked the ref because he didn't put up with any crap. In the first 15 minutes of the game, my friend and I both said, "He can't be from MLS". My personal favorite was when half of the Morellia team was arguing a call. While they were doing this, he put the ball down and said, here play. The Fire had a free kick and pretty much an easy chance to score. Of course, the Fire didn't score on it, but it was still a funny play. He also seemed the most competent of what I am used to, but that isn't saying much.

I heard about this...any word of an appeal? You can't just deny players enterance into your country...I vote a 1-0 forfit win for KC :D

On topic though, this actually makes me feel worse. KC has been hit by the injury bug, if we would have gotten past Morelia this might have been our best chance for a Cup this season :P
