Any information about the tournament (level of play, treatment of referees, facilities, etc.) would be appreciated.

Mass,

Can't tell you anything about the organization or tournament, but according to GotSoccer's rankings, it is the highest rated tournament in the State of Georgia.

It rates the various tournaments based upon the level of teams that attend. They are rated Premier, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Copper and Developmental.

Atlanta Cup is rated Gold and last year it was attended by 1 National Champ, 3 Regional Champs, 2 Regional semi-finalist, 13 state champions, 10 state finalists, and 12 state semi-finalists.

So it appears to be a fairly strong tournament.

If you're interested in seeing how it rates to other tournaments, go to www.gotsoccer.com and click on the rankings link. As an example, the Sun Bowl which we have been discussing online is rated a Premier tournament.

Thanks for the info guys, I had already been checking out the website and looked at the teams. I recognize a lot from Region III in the A Divisions, but after that, the tournament seems very, very local. And I didn't notice any teams from outside the region. But, on the other hand, as you said kev, it has some very strong teams from within the Region, and it's a very strong Region to begin with.

I'm thinking about making the trip, as I really haven't done any major tournaments the past few years between Regionals and WAGS, and this looks like a good event.

Speaking of WAGS, are you coming down this year?

Claymore,

We can take this to PM if need be, but do you live south of Germantown? I only ask because I'm staying in the DC area after WAGS (at G'town with a friend) and I need to find a ride into the city--or near the city so I can catch the metro. I was counting on Jimmy Brooks from NH, but he'll be in Spain for the semester. If it sounds feasible, maybe we can talk. PM me.

Other than that, is anyone going to the Atlanta Cup? I've send in my info, so I guess I'm going. It does look like a great tournament at the "A" bracket level, and I haven't spent anytime in Atlanta before.
