During a conference call Monday to announce that Chivas will take part in the annual MLS All-Star game at the Home Depot Center in Carson on Aug. 2, Vergara admitted his interest in acquiring an MLS team
so the only outcome i would think is him wanting a second LA team?

Vergara on Chivas becoming involved as an MLS investor:
"We've been in negotiations with MLS on many different options and issues. We haven't come to anything like that yet, but we plan to keep on negotiation about many things that will be good for soccer. If there is a chance that it will help our club than it is something we would consider."
"We have just now established a relationship with MLS, but in the future that is something that we will explore down the road. Chivas has the greatest following in the world, so we must look at all our options."
I could see Chivas doing some sort of marketing deal, maybe some sort of deal with players similar to Metrostars/Boca or hosting some sort of event or cup, but from his comments (at least what was on MLSnet) it doesn't look like they would be investing in a team. - But I could be wrong, I can't claim to know the whole story.

Houston could also be a possibility

"Chivas has the greatest following in the world..."
Oh, really? Somehow, I find that difficult to believe.

On yesterday's broadcast of the Colorado/LA the announcer said that Vergara had just met with MLS brass and told them he had 50 million dollars ready to invest in MLS. Don't know if it's true but that's what the announcer said.

Hopefully, he means US Dollars. Be it the case, I will gladly volunteer my services as Senor Vergara's front man in re-establishing the Cleveland Stokers franchise with a hunk of those greenbacks. Since the red-striped classic Stoker jerseys resemble Chivas, I'm sure he'd be interested. Hey, we've got a Univision channel here, too!
Logically, I'd imagine he'd indeed focus on a Southwest locale, such as Houston, San Diego or San Antonio (though Crockett & Bowie would turn in their graves). As enamored as Vergara may be with HDC, would you think that MLS would steer him to establishing his own team and SSS in another media center rather than ending up with two teams sharing one? Kinda like the NASL sent the LA Toros to SD, allowing the Wolves LA all to themselves back in '68. Apples & oranges perhaps, but I bet Garber and the boys are licking their chops over this development.

I think when he said "greatest" he was referring to the quality and passion of his teams fans (his opinion and some PR, thats all) rather than the quantity of fans.

Everyone says they have the best fans. Would it be an all Mexican team like CHivas? that would be interesting. how about we bring back Team USA(all american players) like in the waning days of the NASL

Or maybe "Los Atomos II" (Thinking of the time Mexicans bought the Philadelphia Atoms & methodically destroyed the franchise). Hopefully, the present-day MLS braintrust is not the NASL resurrected. No "Team America" or "Los Atomos" this time. Please.
Senor V wasn't among that bunch in Philly, was he? Doubt it. Hoping for something good this time around.
