Martino was wearing number 13, does that mean that Cobi will no longer be part of the US team?
If that's so, too bad, he brings veteran experience and the little short guy can still run like crazy.

No... Although most BigSoccerites would like to see Cobi never play for the nats again unless it's against Mexico. It just means that FIFA required all eight teams at the Confederations Cup to have their players wear numbers 1-23, and Martino who had 2 caps going into the tournament pretty much had the last pick of numbers. Bruce has the players with the most caps in each camp pick the number they will wear first.
Since you're a Galaxy fan you probably already realize that Cobi was in LA and not in France...

Yes I saw the Galaxy on Saturday. Why do you say that you don't want to see Cobi in the MNT, i know he is getting older. I've heard that from other people too, fill me in if there is soemthing I don't know. Don't get me wrong I like him (mostly my kids do) but I am not a fanatic.

Speaking for the moderate level of the Anti-Cobi coalition, he's way past his time for the National Team. The talent level has passed him by. He's over the hill in most respects, except for playing Mexico and pissing them off.
Re: Uniform numbers.
National teams bascially have a mess of jerseys, as Davids wrote. And FIFA tourneys require teams to have numbers in a certain range. Look at the guys who have worn the #10 - Donovan, Reyna, ...... #9 - Kirovski, Moore, Olsen they're all pretty active in the USNT Pool.

For any FIFA competition the same number is worn only by one player per team. Therefore, both Martino and Cobi could not wear #13 in the same competition.

That's the reason why MX always tried to kill Jones during WC2002. What about Stewart, he's holder and still plays. I always see Cobi making good passes and I also like Stewart's agility. I know they are getting older or over the hill but I still find them usefull during the second time.

I think the difference between Earnie and Cobi when it comes to the national team is that Earnie is still seen as more than a one dimensional player. Cobi has lost a step or two, and hes nothing more than a role player on the national team level now. That was evident if you saw the World Cup, Cobi's role was as a late game sub to come in and waste time. He did a great job and ended up making the Mexicans look worse than they already looked. But now that kind of a role player isn't needed until WCQ comes around again, and Bruce probably figures its better to blood some younger players than give Cobi is 170th cap.
Thanks for your service to us Cobi!!!
