See title. The team to win it 3 times keeps it for good. At least that's how it went with the Jules Romet... I'm assuming it's like that with this one as well..?

I don't think FIFA is going to do the same thing with the "new" trophy. Seems I heard that they had decided to keep it in rotation.

Just another one of the reasons I've suggested championship rings for World Cup winners.

If Brazil win it, will they melt this one down as well?

LOL, what's it to you? It's not like you're ever going to win it in your lifetime, so please stop worrying about what happens to it.

Actually, this trophy will be retired once the inscription slots for teams is full. I'm not sure, but the last team to fill the last spot might keep it.

Don't worry about it. As long my country doesn't sink into the ocean there will be no World Cup for you.

And who is your country? Because if it's Brazil, England almost beat them in their last encounter. Brazil isn't a powerhouse these days...Argentina is MUCH better.

I don't think the poster you're responding to is from Brasil, but I had to comment on the way you've done your research.

You would resort to a FRIENDLY held IN England to make a determination of what would happen if the teams meet in a meaningful match (which can happen only at a World Cup)?

Brazil isn't a powerhouse these days...

No, they're a team in a horrible state of transition right now, and have been for a couple of years. The sad performances of 1974, 1986, 1990, 1998 and 2006 will likely be repeated in 2010.

Argentina is MUCH better.

They always are, aren't they? :D But that superiority rarely translates into success.

Without a Madadona to punch them into the semifinal or a Peru to lay down on defense (yeah, I know about the posts Peru hit, before someone shows up with this tidbit of irrelevance), they may -not will, but may- end up being just another great team that fails when it matters- again.

Don't forget Mexico's recent record against them. MEXICO.

So did we, and the time before that, and the time before that too. Believe it or not, England has an even worse record against us than Brazil in recent years. cheers.

I did not say that comment to him because my country wins a lot of World Cups...I said it to him because we make sure his country doesn't either. :D

"We" being who?

Maybe he's Portuguese. They put England out of their continental championships and the most recent World Cup. Or maybe he IS from Brasil, and is referring not to Portugal's NT but to Felipao.

lmao. Brazil beat Brazil the last three times it played itself. If he didn't get it, he never will.

Who's that Germany? They're the team that knocks us out of most world cups. We've beaten them a couple of times recently.

the players all get medals. I don't see any advantage to switching to rings instead. Does any country other than the USA give out championship rings?

I don't know if any other country gives out rings. My guess would be no, but given time, I'll bet some players who come into contact with former athletes from American sports will start thinking the same thing as I.

I do know about the medals. I'd want the medal tradition to remain, but I'd like to see rings added. They're awarded here for high school state championships and semifinal appearances in some cases. I've seen students with rings for winning their region (kind of like a conference in collegiate sports), too.

You can't really walk around with a World Cup medal dangling from your neck. That's not intended to be as gaudy as it sounds (I say this because I know it does sound as if I'd want everyone within 20 feet to know I was a champion of something, but I'm not personally a professional athlete). I just think the design of championship rings are cool -not when they're just regular rings, tho.

.the championship rings I've seen always come across as horribly tacky.

If bling is your thing, then great, but pretty horrible otherwise.

Of course I couldn't claim to have my finger on the pulse of the fashion sense of even the England squad, let alone the players of the top teams around the world. Their attitude might be different.

See here is the thing. You are unwilling to talk about the past when people accuse Italy of doing something unfairly. Yet you want to talk about something that happens 40 years ago in another thread. A bit hypocritical don't you think. England is ranked 8th.
