View Full Version : Argentina's two best for the Copa America(Riquelme and Mascherano)

These two I think have been the standouts of the team. Riquelme has played just like he did with Boca during the Copa Libertadores and Mascherano has played just like he did with Liverpool during the Champions League. They both have played at a consistent level and have done their jobs remarkably. Riquelme with his passing and free kicks, and Mascherano with his shutting down of the oppositions star play.
Anyone else have thoughts and opinions on this??

Everyone was on par in this team, but Riquelme is the man, the leader, El te va matare matadore!. I almost regret Pellegrini coaching the NT team, instead of Basiles for the World Cup. Pellegrini had the status of nurturing Riquelme, Basiles has the knack to understanding him as a footballing man.

I think Mascherano has been Argentina's best and most consistent player but if Argentina wins the final I'm sure Riquelme will get the MVP award.

Riquelme can be the top scorer in this tournament, which is also why he could get the MVP.
But overall, everyone screwed up so little, and everyone helped each other so much, that is hard to point a single player as the best.
The better quality is that they play as a team, and none seem to look up for their own personal gain, but the common goal.
Mascherano have said in an interview that he DOES NOT ENJOY to play, because he has no time to do so : he is so busy and focused in doing his job, that he loose the perception of other parts of the field, what other players do up front.
The guy is a machine !!!

I think we still have to wait for Messi, he still has the potential to show the kind of "Crack" that he is...

Messi is showing the crack that he is. Tonight he scored a goal worthy of Diego Maradona!
But I agree, looking at the overall picture, the whole team looks solid, Messi and Tevez are looking awesome, but Mascherano and Riquelme are the keys to the success of this team.
Lets hope for one more good effort.

While he is not the cog that drives the machine, Zanetti has been an absolute stud, consistently excellent in every game.
