[and, by extention, Rs of other U20 games]
the internets say Zizzo plays mid for UCLA, but he's been at forward during this competition, right? those of you who've been able to avail yourselves of the TV coverage (AHF4FCD, I'm looking at you), is that standard Rongen position-fiddling or are the internets wrong? I guess it's not odd at that level to be flexible in where you play.
Hoopsman Anthony Wallace doing us proud in this Uraguay game, taking a hard knock in the air that the matchtracker folks seemed to think was pretty nasty. after that committed a foul that led to a free kick, so I hope he's not bumped or dazed.

from matchtracker:
39 ...Uruguay counters
40 Slowed down by Wallace, out for a throw
40 Strong defending by Julian Valentin and Anthony Wallace thwart another opportunity in the box
41 A good ball over the top is defended well by Wallace, out for a throw

OMG Jozy stretchered off. no card to the Uraguayan who hacked him.
edit: Jozy back on but "hurting"; don't risk it if it's potentially bad, Rongen.
edit II: appears to be calf injury, helped off the field by staff.

US playing a 4-4-2 with Adu and Andre Akpan (Grand Prairie native) up top. Robbie Rogers is listed as an F and is on the pitch though.

I blame Wrongen's 4-3-3 formation. the problem seemed to be getting the ball to the forwards. there seemed to be very little movement from the outside backs. I also blame the guy who hurt Jozy, and Wrongen again for not putting in Farerri earlier.

Holy Cow, Own Goal By Uruguay!!!!!!
Holy Cow, Match-track Wrong, Credit Goes To Metroplex Striker Andre Akpan!!!!!!!!!!!!!
edit: they changed it again, it's back to an own goal. without having any idea what the play looked like, I claim Akpan was robbed!

Mr. Own-Goal elbows Szetela, no card. this ref sucks and is not protecting our guys.

Uruguay handball in the box off an Akpan header goes uncalled. these refs are from Uzbekistan (ref), Uzbekistan (asst ref), Kazakhstan (asst ref), and Canada (4th off).

Akpan flattens a Uruguayan player and he's stretchered off, so at least the ref is consistent.

Wallace booked.

Bradley scores, 3 USA players booked over the next 8 minutes. Adu's booking was blatant garbage. a hard foul on Rogers leads to nothing. what garbage. these cards could hurt us if we advance.

Borat was right. We should bombard them with our catapults.

we could theoretically face Japan in the semis. I'd wear my jersey to work that day.

highlighting the unpredictable nature of this competition, three of today's four winning teams came from behind to get the win: the USA, Spain, and the Czech Republic (beat Japan on penalty shootout after being awarded two PKs to tie the game during regulation.) cards were flying in all three of those matches, so I guess it'll even out.

After watching on my Tivo, I'm even more pissed that I knew the result of the US - Uru game.
That was incredible.
And I'll never know what it was like for those who watched it in real time.
Still....hell of a game.

since you got to watch it instead of just matchtracking, what are your thoughts about MOTM, the Hoopsters' performances, Jozy's injury, the refs, etc? Perk sounds like he did a great job with saves but rarely held on to the ball.

I watched most of it. Perk let in an awful goal. I could have stopped it in my sleep. And Jozy looked to be the target for physical abuse from a chippy Uruguay team. Altidore's injury occured when a Uruguay player tied his legs up with his own then rolled over. Hard to tell if it was intentional, but another hard foul was delivered on him earlier, so... The own goal guy (can't remember his name) is a dirty bastard. He gave Szetela a little love tap that could have been a red, then tried to start more shit after the game was over.
