We have the best record in the East, and Nicol snubs Perkins, Emilio, etc.

Named as the the Commissioner's Picks were Eddie Pope and Cobi Jones, while Brian Ching, Landon Donovan, Ronnie O'Brien, Kevin Hartman and Pablo Mastroeni were chosen by Nicol.
Honestly, the biggest ommission is Schelotto. Even if Nicol didn't want him, Garber should have picked him. He's one of the most skilled players I've seen in MLS, and we get Mastro/O'Brien redux.
Also, odd that there were no Houston defenders from what's easily the best defense in the league. Wade "I scored more goals for DC than Devin Barclay" Barrett has to be there.
Three picks for KC and NE, two for the Galaxy, and one for DC? Hataz, all of 'em!

Gives our guys a rest.

Now we hope and pray all 14 "non-playing All Stars" are DC players who get a nice bonus check and don't have to play.

Nope. He'll be there (in a luxury box so to speak) for publicity purposes only. Did I just say "in a luxury box"??? Oops!;)

Beckham?
I think even Garber et al couldn't justify selecting a player as an All-Star who has yet to step on the field.

Yeah I have to say while it's a sham, I'm glad our guys are safe.
But I hope they get their bonuses.
I also hope they bring back the old all star format. Or scrap it entirely.

Yeah, technically he will not play his first MLS game until August 5th. Oh, btw, the Galaxy are in Richmond tonight playing against the Kickers (7pm ET at University of Richmond Stadium). Go Kickers!!!

Scrap it.
I hate the All Star game. In fact, I can't stand any All Star games. NFL, MLB, NHL, NCAA North versus South (or East versus West), et al.
It's ludicrous that the MLB All Star game decides home field advantage in the World Series. I guess baseball figured that was the only way to make the players give a shit about who wins.

don't they have to win like 4-5 games for the series of finals alternating home?
So, the home advantage is who gets the first home game? so much to give a shit about a home field advantage.

As someone who had followed baseball at some point, I didn't even realize this. Thanks for reminding why I don't bother now.

That'd be a tough sell since 'All-Star' has entered the language of American sports.
Run a simulated game using software. No injuries, and you could broadcast the 'match' over the net into every home.

This is a rather recent development.
After the commish ended the 2002 all star game after the 11th inning due to insufficent players.

Who cares about the MLS All-Stars playing someone DC smacked the crap out of last year?
All-Star Games in sports are a joke anyway, but at least have them in some sort of league vs. league format like East/West, US/World, etc. Non-playing all stars? What a joke.
That said, I'm glad DC didn't get scrapped again. Did you see what happened last year after the ASG to the team?

On a more serious note...
While we are thrilled to discover no United players added to the roster, I wonder how the players feel.
It could be relief (as we believe it to be).
It could also be anger/spite/hurt. It could be a kick in the arse for some who believe that they should have been included.
I hope for the latter. Hunger and competitiveness are hallmarks of champions.
