THE SAD TRUTH
I am going to be very frank.
We are just bad. Plain and simple bad.
It’s not only the coach, or the players or the managers, or even the fans. It’s a combination of all.
We play on a very rudimentary level, which means no set plays, no creation, no brilliance, no excellence from anyone. Our players lack fundamentals. They are used to perform in our horrendous league, where soccer is inexistent, replaced by a bunch of people hitting the ball to the other team's side to see if somebody messes up. And if they don’t, they start all over again from the other side.
So when they see themselves in front of a team that knows how to play organized football, they panic.
How can you tell they panic? Easy, it’s usually evident when they posess the ball. They don’t know what to do with it.
If they don’t return it where it came from, they kick it away, wherever, never mind that there was a teammate no more than 10 yards away. They panic, I am telling you. Just watch the games again.
That’s why you see defensive games like against Venezuela, Bolivia, Argentina. It’s not strategy from the coach, bull.
When you don’t know what you are doing, it’s just easier to wait and react than to be in charge. Think your first day on the job, did you wanna take any hard assignments?
I saw more than once a Peruvian player kicking the ball to allow a corner kick or to the sideline when it was just as easy to save it an do something with it. You start wondering why until you realize these people lack skills, and they are there only because there is nobody better.
These are the people that we count on to get us to South Africa.
Let me make clear that I don’t blame the players. Or Uribe, althought choosing him as a coach after failing terribly the first time tells you all you want to know about Peruvian football.
They are all a product of our system. Our system is producing flawed players. If the system is not fixed, we can expect another 30 years of failure.
Sorry, but it's the truth.

Hi, Im new here. First time poster long time reader. I agree with you that it is a combination of things but to me the main factor is that people just aren't going to the stadiums. If more people start going to league games than that will generate income and help the youth programs as well as bring in more qualified coaches and foreign players. This, along with getting rid of the corupt managers will do wonders for our league.

People don't go to the stadiums because of the terribly unattractive games played, which is the same reason for the low ratings on TV.
Very little money comes in, so the big three or four (relatively speaking) fight for a spot in the S.A. Cups, where they will lay an enormous egg in the round stage, but at least will collect enough money to pay for locals and a couple of third or four rated players from the Rio de la Plata basin.
In the meantime, the smaller teams will do as they can, paying peanuts to people that should be driving combis or selling lottery tickets on the street. All and all, the level of play remains low, which is why people don't go to watch the games in the first place.
It's all a vicious circle and somebody needs to break it, or we'll be in it forever.

shit lets get pajuelo back, oh oh and abel lobaton, lets keep calling mendoza
and the games vs venezuela argentina and uruguay was defensive because of the couch choice, put to many on defense only 3 on offense
some of them do panic, which is why there arent on the field, most of them dont have comunication on the feild

Wow, seems the Peruvians didnt exactly welcome back la sele with open arms
EFE

Albertorei,
I understand your point about the bad quality league but without the income the vicious circle continues. It is up to the fans to make an effort and come out to watch the games. Also the teams need to make a better effort to promote coming out to the stadiums. If we want our football to succeed we need to fill those seats. Without funds, the league cannot be attractive and survive. Money is not going to fall out of the sky. Basically what I am saying is that we need to start somewhere and I think this is the right place to start.

Getting a new manager being only 3 months away from qualifying matches would be a fatal mistake... Hopefully Uribe learned something from thie Cup and will finally call more midfielders and less ********ing attackers.

The future is the U17 and some of the U20, thats about all you can look forward to. You can talk about how to mejorar el futbol Peruano all day long, all year long, noone is going to pay attention. But I know what you mean.

You are putting the onus on the fans, and that's not going to happen. I think first we need to upgrade our product. The football chiefs need to devise a way to elevate the quality of the football played, and then market themselves. Once that happens, people will come.
But I doubt that will ever happen with our current crop of comechados that only live for today and don't look at the way they are killing Peruvian football.
