Not trolling, just wanting to ask a question. Is Dave Johnson still DC's Play-by-play man for Comcast Sportsnet Mid Atlantic? I keep seeing & hearing him during Gold Cup & MLS matches on Fox Soccer Channel. Did he get sacked or is he just filling in for Max Bretos here & there?

Almost every PBP guy for any sport is pretty much a freelancer. He is DC United's primary PBP guy, but he's also the Washington Wizards radio PBP guy, and he'll land some other work from time to time as well.

No team's PBP guy in this country makes enough money to pay the rent just doing PBP for that team. Unless you're at the top tier of sports announcers in this country, you take all the work you can get.

He's also the main sports guy on WTOP.

Actually, I think he was XM's primary PBP guy, I'm sure he did the final.

Now if he would only learn that our goalkeepers last name is Perkins and not Onstead...;)

yeah, he was having a really rough night last night, got a few things mixed up in his head ....... I had just remarked about Benny having jet-lag as he was getting tired when Dave called Perking Onstad, Lisa looked at me and said "maybe Dave has the jet-lag too"

Dave has done a lot with Fox Soccer Channel in the days when it was known as Fox Sports World. He's been with the Baltimore Blast, the USL, and the WUSA, too.
Note: he's doing more games these days than Jack Edwards.

We've met, right? ;)

JP Dellacamera, probably the best soccer PBP guy in the U.S., has been the Atlanta Thrasher's main PBP guy for the last two NHL seasons.
Yeah, most of these guys are constantly scrambling to fill dates in the calendar with work.
At a recent USSF game I ran into someone I know who works behind the scenes and Dave's name came up as someone who had moved up the pecking order for games that that person produces.

I never really thought about your point until reading a feature on Nats color analyst, Don Sutton, in this Sunday's Post TV section. The guy is a hall of famer who has been doing TV for nearly 20 years now and he admitted that he couldn't afford to buy a three bedroom place in DC and had to move to Alexandria to find something within his price range.

I understand the individual words but the way they're arranged makes no sense.
