"And what is all this Kovalenko coming in spikes up on Beasley.
Boys will be boys."
What the hell, Fred? Is that the best you can come up with?

I'm sure he really wanted to call Dema a total dumb ass, but he can't really use such language for the column.
I for one am glad that Fred actually pays attention to the Fire. No one else on that station does. The only one else that even knew anything about soccer was Les Grobstein, who is no longer on the station.
I remember when Fred was talking about how outraged he was with the Italy-South Korea game, and that dope Terry Boars jumps in saying he doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. With the Bears coming up, you really think the Fire is going to get any attention? They are getting too little attention as it is, and both baseball teams suck this year.

"ESPN was all prepared for the introductions, but apparently, no one at the stadium could hear them, the players among them. The players stood around looking lost while Rob Stone continued with the introductions."
It was ABC, Fred, as you mention correctly later on in the column.
And yes, the whole first 5 minutes of the broadcast sure seemed like a middle school play gone bad, with everyone looking around wondering what they were supposed to be doing.
And I hope by "boys will be boys", Fred meant "Dema will continue to be a hothead and display his lack of intelligence/restraint"

All things considered it seemed a pretty good event for tv.

It was on national TV. Room for slack goes out the window on such a stage.

The likely didn't have time to rehears, and really it was only Alexi Lalas who was holding things up and had no clue what was happening, which is just par for the course for him.
