Wondering what people would consider the 10 "I-have-to-see-a-match-in-that-place-before-I-die" stadiums in the world. I'm not talking about the best luxury boxes or cheapest beer. I mean places that are the epicenters of world soccer. The places steeped in atmosphere and history. Places like La Bombonera in Buenos Aires or San Siro or Anfield. I'll make a guess but I have no basis for this rather than what I've heard and seen on TV. Let me know what you think.
(In no particular order)
La Bombonera (Buenos Aires, Boca Juniors)
Estadio Azteca (Mexico City, Club America)
Wembley Stadium (London, "The Home of Football")
Old Trafford (Manchester, Manchester United)
Anfield (Liverpool, Liverpool FC)
Stade Gerland (Lyon, Olympique Lyonnais)
San Siro (Milan, AC Milan & Internazionale)
Stadio delle Alpi (Turin, Juventus)
Camp Nou (Barcelona, Barcelona)
La Bernabéu (Madrid, Real Madrid)
If I'm totally off let me know. There has to be someplace in Brazil that I'm overlooking, right? Portugal? Holland? I want to make a list of places to see a match in my lifetime as a soccer equivalent to the Yankee Stadium, Wrigley, Fenway baseball tour.

I like the Stade de France.
One worth noting that never gets attention (because the team is so under the radar) is Japan's Toyota Stadium (http://www.wldcup.com/Asia/stadia/toyota.html), which is occasionally used by Nagoya Grampus Eight, it's actually located in Toyota City which is why it's not always used.
Maracana HAS to be on a top 10 list though. Wembley may be the home of football, but the Maracana is the heart.

Pick out Gerland and Stade de France.
There's only ONE real soccer stadium in France, the Parc des Princes. Gerland is obsolete and Stade de France, even though beautiful, is not a soccer arena but a multi-purpose structure.
For me the best of all in Europe is Camp Nou. I don't know really about South American stadiums.

Stamford Bridge!!! Hahahahah, are you kidding? It took you about 10 years to extend and it only holds just over 40,000 now! What a shed! Lol. Worst atmos ever almost. Blue is the colour...dont think so!
For atmos, I would have to say Anfield or Galatassary's ground?? Lots of people say Anfield as its got so much History. The Nou Camp is the venue that as a player, you would want to play there...

Anfield, an epicentre of world soccer? you must be joking. And before anyone jumps down my throat and says Goodison Park is hardly the greatest stadium in the world, im not professing it to be. I know its old and in need of improvement a lot. But I hardly think you can compare Anfield to the likes of the nou camp, or even Old Trafford. On my first visit to Anfield in February for the Merseyside derby, I was prepared for something spectacular. And the atmosphere wasnt exactly electric. and the stadium isnt anything amazing either.

Oh Kezza, if I wanted to listen to an arsewhole I would phart..
And yes, you only go to Anfield when the blue sh*te are there...
You never go to european games when we rock the place! Oh, can somebody explain to our Everton fan Kezza what the champions league is...
Sung to the the theme of old scouser tommy...
Can i tell you a story of a poor team
who where sent far away from there home
to live in the sticks of knowsley
where only the cattle do roam
They were banished to a lower division
Had no hope of seeing far foreign lands
the fans swarmed around in their hundreds
with their tesco bags in their hands
Oh a battle it started next morning
Over at aisle number 1
Oh those poor evertonian b*st*rds
where scrapping over the last hot x bun
As they lay on the aisles of the tesco ( of the Tesco)
Knocking over the cakes and the bread
and the bread!!!
As they lay on the aisle of the tesco
These where the last words they said
" Oh we are the evertonians,
Our ground is made of wood
Were horrible bitter b*st*rds
cause we've never been that good.
We support a team that's dressed in Blue
Its a team that no-one knows.
A team sponsored by tesco cause that's were we buy our clothes.

hey the question was what we thought the best stadiums in the world are and i was just giving my opinion. kopites always bite quickly, and they say we do... . Just dont think anfield is all its cracked up to be.
"Rock the place" hmm, the banners written in norwegian and god knows what else, that are usually spelt wrong and are just plain bizarre. the amazing kop with the singing section. dont make me laugh. oh and lets not forget the most unhygenic fans. find me someone who thinks its funny apart from a kopite to spit and pour bodily fluids on away fans. its disgusting. and lets not get started on the fans antics in the champions league.
We may not have your glory, but we will never have your shame. Evertonians and Kopites are from the same city, but are like chalk and cheese. Find me an Evertonian with an old trafford sink in their house.

Ots easy saying that. EVERY team has a small group of fans who misbehave at matches. As for the banners its just called having a 'foreign fanbase'. You'll get there some day...

Anfield has history and the atmosphere can be very good on big European nights but the rest of the time it is average at best. It is a point worth noting. While one such night might make it into another top 10, we are discussing atmosphere and history in general terms. With that in mind I would not include Anfield in this list. Wembley also misses out because a lot of history was wiped out with the new stadium and the atmosphere has yet to be determined.

Are you talking about the best stadiums or the stadiums with the best atmosphere in them. Cause there are quite different.
Best stadium to me is: new, nice seat, good view (with no one standing to block to view), plenty of restrooms, short lines at concessions, quality video screens, etc.

Most historic/atmospheric. The temples of the sport.

I would include the Alvalade where Sporting CP play. The place is amazing. I was there for a Sporting/Benfica derby. The place was phenomenal and the atmosphere was out of this world.

It might not be the best around, but Bramall Lane (Sheffield United) is the oldest stadium still hosting professional games. The first game was held in 1862.
