I just watched Argentina beat Peru 4-0, and who was the sparkplug ? Tevez, of course! He plays so hard and so well, it's a shame we probably will lose him. He hit the post, and engineered at least 2 of the goals. Mascherano scored a goal, by the way, and when he plays for his national team, he looks like an outstanding player. Why didn't Pardew give him a chance?

For me this is one of the more disappointing aspects of last season. That whole set-up before Christmas just seemed to have its head way too far up its own aŁ$e. I'm probably wrong though, and there were very good non-footballing reasons for him not playing ahead of Mullins. Otherwise Masch would seem a pretty fair bet for a start or two!
It's all water under the bridge now. I just can't wait to get started again and have all this behind us. I wish we could keep Tevez too - he really is world class.

that's like understating Riquelme's importance.

Is Riquelme on the move or what?
Looking back to when Tevez and Masher first joined us they were both a bit off form at the time, possibly due to all the fuss at Corinthians before they left.
I remember watching a friendly where Tevez played for Argentina before he played for us. He looked tired and a bit uninterested. He didn't really have a shot on goal and wasn't half the player he is now. Naturaly I started to wonder who we had signed and hoped that he would develop into greatness.
I am sure this contributed to Masher not settling and Tevez going 20 games without scoring. Funny how everyone seems to have forgotten about this now.

I have to disagree with you slightly Chris. I thought Tevez looked great in the World Cup - The friendly at the Emirates vs Brazil, (if that's what you're talking about), was not a particularly good day for any of the Argentinians if I remember right. I had no doubts about him at that point in time.
I might be wrong, but I can't remember Tevez playing 20 games without scoring. I thought he only played about 20 in all. I don't think anyone else was particularly prolific last season either. And as for a player of Maschers quality only starting 3 times in half a season, its just a shame that's all.

i love mascherano, his WORLD CLASS quality. I fail to understand why he didn't play regular spot for West Ham, he deserves a first team spot in most games, one of the better midfielders in his position in the game, very solid.
I guess something to do with the bogus transfer agreement.

i believe the people saying roman will remain at boca for his international titles. boca just doesnt want to pay villarreal so they want roman become free agent.
about tevez not scoring for a while. like i said in another thread, you gotta look at what west ham was doing with him. he was getting tested with 45 minute games, and for a while (even after curbishley first took over) west ham was substituting harewood and even sheringham for tevez at critical times. west ham clearly did not trust/ know how to use tevez. once they build the strategy around him, tevez got it done.

i dont think they had the spot for a holding mid. for a little bit they didnt trust either tevez or mascher, and there was at least once they took out tevez to put in mascher

I don't dispute that West Ham was in disarray during the time that Tevez was not scoring. There were several reasons why he went through that dry spell, I was simply pointing out on of them albeit perhaps a lesser one.
I read somewhere that Tevez went 20 games without scoring but I also read elsewhere that it was 19. I can't find any official stats on him at the moment but it was a long time that's for sure.
Also it was the game Vs Brazil at the Emirates I was referring to. I suppose it was a disappointing game all round but it was the first time I had seen Tevez play, hence the apprehension.
After he played his first game for us I always knew he was class and I always believed he would come good. Luckily for us it was just in time.

18 appearances for WHU before he scored against I wanna say tottenham?
then he didn't score in one of the games during that final push. making it 19
some of those were UC games, and some of those tevez was tested as right winger.
