In what parts of the world do the stadiums still usually have fences?

France and Germany have them, I think Italy too. They're outlawed in Great Britain, tho Shrewsbury have one that's grandfathered in.

Most terraces in Germany have fences up front and around. Some of them have been taken down tough, for example in Kaiserslautern as far as I know. Others have Plexiglas-walls (I dont know if that word exists in english, but that (http://www.fussball-maniac.de/modules/xcgal/albums/userpics/10001/normal_schalke-bayern8.JPG) is what I mean) instead of iron-fences, for example Schalke.
In Frankfurt there has been talk about taking down the fence in the front, but nothing happened yet, and as far as I know most Ultras and Ultra-oriented Fans who always stand in the first rows dont mind them, and in fact would rather keep them to have a place to hang banners on...
I usually stand in the middle of the terrace and Im not distracted by the Fence at all, so I personally dont really care whether its there or not...

I usually stand in the middle of the terrace and Im not distracted by the Fence at all, so I personally dont really care whether its there or not...I spent the first few years of going to football feeling exactly the same way. I hardly noticed the fence as I was so used to it.

If I go to a game abroad now (and I'm not somewhere high enough were I can see over the fence) I'm almost in awe of just how bad the view is through a fence.

Given the German football doesn't seem to suffer from much of a hooligan problem these days, it's a surprise that fences are still there in so many grounds - I know some, such as Hannover, don't have them.

Having sat near a plexiglass wall at Nuremburg, I would say that viewing through plexiglass is surprisingly more irritating that looking through a fence.

Old German stadiums had a sort of fence surrounding the outside of the field. Players trained doing agility drills using them. Over and unders over the fence and then go under the fense.

Kept spectators from getting to close to the field.

Some south american stadiums have high fences to seperate the crazy fans from the players.

It makes me proud that here in britain we dont need them we long since realised that seast make it alot harder for charges etc. allougth of course the terraces are gone at the big clubs now which is a big shame but i still think that safety should come first. i still dont see why other countries dont have seats with backs instead of basically a plastic stool which is pretty pointless mite aswell let the fans have a proper terrace rather then crappy little seats.
be better to ask the question who doesn't have fences at grounds

Sometimes fences can add to the experience like in Dortmund:
