Anyone else watching the Tour? I absolutely adore it and I went to a stage of every single one the past 7 of 8 years, including Lance's last ride down the Champs-Elysees. Had to work today from 6-3...(without a break, I'm aware this breaks some kind of labor law) so I taped the prologue, which started in London. Anyone else watching with interest??

I'll catch a little of it. Its amazing to think there are people on a bike for 4-6 hours at a time. I mean I go out for an hour and my ass is hurting, even with bike shorts on, I can't imagine 5 hours. Cool event but the sport is tainted.

All sports are tainted. All of them.
I love cycling, I just wish I didn't feel like I've just gotten ********ed up the shitter by an angry elephant every time I ride. I enjoy it though.
The ride, not getting ********ed up the shitter by an angry elephant. Perverts.

McEwen's recovery from back of the peleton to sprint win was incredible today, and I agree, the shots of Canterbury were fantastic...though I will love it even more once they return to my beloved France.:)

You said it, not us. And yes, I know all sports are tainted, its just with the coverage that is shined on this particular event of all the cycling events, it comes up more. I'm sure the rest of the week won't go by without some mention of Bonds' approaching Aaron. It sucks, it kinda takes the innocence that I think some people still attach to sports as if everyone played it like when we were kids.
Didn't watch the stage but I'm sure there will be some good drama along the way.

It was tainted when we were kids as well. A guy died in the 1967 Tour de France due to amphetamine use.
It was just that we were kids, and too dumb to notice anything.

Watched it on Versus (for. OLN) this morning. Three man break gets caught about 5k from the finish, massive pileup 3k from the line. Boonen's leadout man ended up beating him when Boonen couldn't find that kick...nice to let him win:p
Did anyone see McEwen afterwards? Goes up to Boonen or Stegmanns to congratulate them, then promptly smacks a press photographer to move him out of his way, crazy Aussie:D

McEwen is crazy but then you kind of have to be a bit crazy to be sprinter....there is so much going on at the end of a race-all the jockeying for position and elbowing.....fun to watch! :D
Someone might want to put an [R] in the thread title since we are giving out results! :D

I have moved out of Canterbury in the past week.... I had my University graduation at Canterbury Cathedral...
I don't like the Tour De France and this made me not like it even more by the fact they didn't go to Canterbury.... they just stopped on the A2 outside of Canterbury.

had a day trip to Canterbury when I was in London for my Beatles trip in 2004with my college. loved the Cathedral and walked around a bit and hung out near the WW1 memorial (think it was WW1, the little square/open area)

on Mont Ventoux. The Tour needs to go back there soon, the bald giant. Nothing grows on there.

When was the last stage that incorporated Mont Ventoux? It seems like they have one every 2 to 3 years or so.

2002 was the last time they went up it, with Richard Virenque winning. The real drama in terms of winning the stage was that Lance-Marco Pantani battle where Lance let him win and then a big feud ensued with Pantani violently disputing it. They should really bring that back sometime soon.

It took for freaking-ever for the peloton to catch that three-man escape group. They had a small lead of around 2-3 minutes with around 40-50 miles to go and they survived up until the last two miles. I think the rain contributed to the late catch as well as the fact that no one really went up to drive the pace of the peloton.
How about that crash too....did anyone see the riders watching on a big TV monitor while they waited for the others to get up? =) Well done by Quickstep to get the stage win. That was planned perfectly.

Yeah I know where you mean, by the Butter Market bar/ resteraunt. That area is aalways full of tourists so I don't get there much.
