I like a positive interview like this at the start of pre-season, brings a fresh look to everything. If he treats it as the fresh start he talks about, there's no reason why he can't find himself in the 16 (or even the 11) for the first game vs Wigan.
Andy van der Meyde has vowed to get his Everton career back on track.
The Dutchman has endured a frustrating time at Goodison since his transfer from Inter in August 2005 – and been the subject of a wealth of media interest concerning his personal life as well as his football career.
As a result, he was restricted to only a handful of appearances for the Toffees last term.
Speaking exclusively to evertonTV, Andy admits he has only got himself to blame for his disappointing time with the Blues – and that he is determined to turn things around in the new campaign.
“I have not had the best times of times at Everton,” revealed van der Meyde.
“I know I can do better and I want to please everybody as well as myself. I have been unlucky with injuries and I am trying to start afresh.

“I am passionate about football and it is frustrating when you have been training all week not to play on the Saturday - but that is football.
“The only person to blame is myself and this season I will do better.”
With the forthcoming campaign just over a month away, van der Meyde is aiming to get a good pre-season under his belt.
“I just want to have a good pre-season and be in the starting 11 for the first match,” he said.
“I can’t wait for the season to start and it is up to me to do the best I can and the rest is up to the gaffer.”
