Oh well - Just saw Messi score an ultra-goalazo against Mexico. This combined with his Maradona goal against Getafe and his hand of god goal for Barca raises the question, how does he compare to Maradona?
I know people are going to say its to soon to ask. None the less its an interesting topic to consider.
For me so far Messi has shown that he is just as effective a goal scorer as Maradona, if anything, he may be a more effective pure forward as compared to Diego. Where I don't yet see Messi as the potential equal to Diego is as a provider of world class passes (which Diego was) and as a free quick specialist.

What do you think?

Hes on his way, thats for sure.

The 3 comparisons you have said, plus the fact that the argie team basically has him as regular already, and an integral part at such a young age!

Guy will become a superstar, and a bigger and batter footballer than he is currently in a couple of years.

Messi is awesome! He's the closest I've seen to Diego Maradona in terms of his ball handling ability, dribbling, accelerating into space, and scoring spectacular goals. He's still not close to even the young Diego in terms of vision and passing. Also Diego was more lethal from dead ball situations.

Maybe if you combine Riquelme and Messi into one, take the best of each of these two talents, you get close to what Diego was.
