I was thinking about this the other night. I'm not in this situation (thankfully).
However, what would you do if you found out that the person you were dating, your girlfriend, wife-to-be, spouse or significant other happened to follow Tottenham? Would you be able to "work through it" or negotiate? (If so, how much do you concede?)
Or would you take the hardline stance and point towards the door? Could you share a flat with someone who would wake up and walk around in the morning wearing a Tottenham kit?
I'm sure some unfortunate Gooner has been placed in this scenario before.
Only now, pretend it's you.................

A friend of mine's sister was named Chelsea. She knew nothing about football, especially not the team or rivalry. I tried to talk to her as little as possible simply because of her name. She was really hot too - it was a double whammy.

if she speaks during arsenal-sp*rs matches or if she purchases/wears sp*rs stuff i think youd be forced to dump her after destroying most of her valuables

I was actually talking to my Spurs buddy (I know, forgive me) about that very topic. At work I helped a girl named Chelsea and I told him that I will never be able to marry a woman named Chelsea, if just for the fact that I don't want to think of this everytime I see remember her name: http://pub.tv2.no/multimedia/na/archive/00210/jose_mourinho__mana_210478c.jpg
And that me screaming Fcuk off Chelsea among other things wouldn't go down well.
I love football.:)

For reasons a little too embarrassing to explain, I support two NFL teams, Dallas (for 35 years) and Baltimore (because I've had season tickets for 9 years). My wife is a life-long Niners fan. Of course she mocks me for my football bigamy, and she never fails to hesitate rubbing it in when the Niners beat Dallas.
A few years ago I took her to the Niners-Ravens game in Baltimore. Baltimore pounded the Niners something like 44-6 and at one point the Ravens scored two touchdowns while my wife was in the bathroom. I taunted her, but I also got a swift punch in the ribs for my efforts.:o

I can't shake the feeling that a lot of Americans, particularly those who have only been Arsenal fans for 10 years or so, force the hatred of Spuds a little too much.

Totally agree, though I've been with them since well before le boss.
I look at it like a derby rivalry and not much more.

Personally I quite like it!!
I would never be in a relationship with a girl who supported Spu*s. I would also never share a house with a Spu*s fan. Just couldn't do it.

so maybe we do, but hating a club more than anything is almost as fun as loving one, isnt it?

I had to share a house with three Chelsea fans a few years ago. I moved out at the first opportunity.

10 years agothat would have been considered a supporters club meeting for them.

Work today, guy comes up to my register, wearing a Chelsea kit, asks if I can help him, and I said, "No. I'm a Gooner...*ha......ha*......*straight face*" Then he proceeds to say, "Well, I'm not so much a Chelsea fan, just a fan of Drogba". Oh cause that makes it even better...just another that has come within the past 3 seasons or so. What else is new.

You gotta love how he started making excuses as soon as you questioned it. :p
A few months ago I was kicking around the goal warming up for a rec league game when a ball came rolling over from a couple guys on the field next to mine.
On the topic, as long as the love and respect is there, we really shouldn't care about a woman's fav sports teams...but she'd better be the most good-looking and charming woman in the world to make up for being a Spudz supporter.

One of my best mates supports Sp*rs (he married into it), but as long as I can get those Toronto - Heathrow Air Canada free passes, I'm willing to be civil:D

I hate this because it seems in most of my experiences that girls that i have met named Chelsea are hot. Really bothers me.

Spurs, I wouldn't care too much, now if we're talking Man U then that would be a different story.

Very true, I dated a girl who had the same name, drove her nuts whenever I watched Chelsea.

I think everyone needs to figure out their "non-negotiables" prior to getting into a relationship...so, by checking my list, I could never be with at Tottenham supporter.
Interesting side note: Microsoft Word says that I misspelled "Tottenham" - it's suggested spellings include: Misbegotten, rottens, rottenly, and rottener. interesting indeed.
