The only DCU player named to the first IX.

Interesting. Despite the Toronto team stuffing the fan balloting, no one from Toronto made the first XI.

No true outside midfielders either (maybe Toja). Benny deserved to be in this group. Nicol may correct that oversight when he names the rest of his picks.

I thought Benny would have made the team after his hat trick. He is having a good season.

Hopefully Emilio makes the bench, as he's third on the goal scorers list... though Twellman will probably get the nod before him...

I thought Benny would have made the team after his hat trick. He is having a good season. He's having one of the 18 best seasons in MLS but 11 best? I don't think so.

I'm surprised you don't have someone from Houston's backline there (Barrett?). Donovan also deserves to be there--he's done almost all of their scoring, they'd be Metros or TB bad without him. I think Shalrie Joseph deserves to be there.

While I'm happy for Christian, I personally think this was one on rep for the past couple of years.

And yeah, it is interesting that no TFC players made it.

Really, that whole central midfield is there because of last year's performances, not this year's. Gomez, Joseph and DeRosario aren't playing well enough this year to be named to the first XI, IMO, but they all had great seasons last year.

The only DCU player named to the first IX.I mean, I know it's only Celtic and all, but I honestly believe we should field more than 9 players :D

Obviously the MLS committee decided to ignore my many All-Star ballots.

Crap.

I mean it is great for Gomito. He is a hell of a player and deserves the recognition, but with all the important games we have coming up, I'd rather him not play in the meaningless ones.

Best 11 for Gomez so far this year? I am DC thru and thru, but I just don't think so. Also, I love Clark as a player, but how many games has he missed with the national team this year .............. and the team has been on a winning streak without him. Bornstein as well. too many games missed. DeRosario, same thing. I'm not really feeling this starting 11, but whatever.

Whew...I was worried that someone wouldn't be able to find the negative side of being elected to the All-Star game.

I'm kind of ticked off that more of the Red Bulls that I voted for didn't make the team.

He is a big boy and an extra 45min of soccer will not kill him.
He was playing pretty well right through the end of last year.
It is not like these guys aren't running around during practice. Their are plenty of other chances to cut back on the wear and tear.

This is the dark side of letting Freddy go. Gomito is in a funk because he can't play keep away from Freddy with Moreno anymore ;) :D

I agree though, a lot of questionable picks this year (including Gomez). With all our games coming up, i'm glad our guys aren't being called on heavily for this. And I know all about that they get some extra money, but the ones that REALLY need that extra money aren't going to get picked anyway (e.g. the dev contract guys).

Ooops. I meant apathy towards the All-Star Game itself, not in overall play. Though Freddy may get named to the ASG, and Gomez can not pass him the ball. ;)

Here's an idea, have an 'All Reserve' team play Celtic. That way you've got guys that really have something to prove, and generally underpaid, out there.
