This is a tough one, Argentina is best team in the tournament

I dont see Paraguay winning this one, what does suit us is that their weak point seems to be the defense... something Paraguay is very good at taking advantage of, but if we leave Argentina as much space as we left the US, we are gonna get thumped.

Maybe we can sneak a 1-0 or 2-1 win here, but I would be very happy with a draw as even a draw would get us 1st place, gonna be very tough but not impossible.

argentina will want a win so we can play peru in quarter final. let paraguayan go make a brick wall infront of brazil/mexico.

we shouldn't be playing the same formation for this match. 4-3-1-2 is too vulnerable to counter attacks when it's pressed onto a hardcore defense.
one example was the 02' world cup game against england.

if argentina wants a win against this kind of turtle formation paraguay plays, i think we're best off with some kind of 4-2-4 variation (http://albicelestesforever.blogspot.com/2007/07/how-to-play-king-of-negative-football.html). historically it's also the most successful formation against negative teams.

or if argentina wants to just rest players and get a draw, then 4-2-3-1 should be a defensive choice. grind out a draw in this kind of situation is so negative though.

Resting the players who are fatigued or who are not 100 percent physically, as well as those who have yellow cards, has to be a priority for both teams.

Especially considering the weather in Venezuela, and also the fact that in the second round the teams in this group will be playing against an opponent who will have an extra day of rest.

I think this makes the game unpredictable, because the subs will want to make their case for a starting job. We might see more individualistic play. But assuming both teams take this tact, on paper it should favor Argentina because they have more depth.

I wonder what line up we'll be using for the upcoming games now that Crespo won't be there.

I honestly don't know enough about Milito to judge him. I wasn't too impressed by his performance vs. Colombia. I understand he scored a goal but that was more luck that it went in. I just see Tevez SOOO hungry to run to the spaces and make something happen.

Maybe this:

---------------- TEVEZ

----------MESSI ----- RIQUELME

--------CAMBIASSO ----- VERON

------------- MASCHERANO

AYALA --- MILITO --- HEINZE --- ZANETTI]

----------------PATO

I doubt it. Look for a lot of subs. If I was Coco I would rest most players. Something like this:

..................Pato
Ibarra....Burdisso...Diaz....Heinze
...........Gago.........Mascherano
.........Aimar..........Riquelme
...........Tevez
......................Milito

I'd leave Heinze because we don't have a natural substitute for him. I'd leave Mascherano and Riquelme, unless they are fatigued, because they are our key players. (Although, maybe that's a reason to take them out. We want them rested, plus they might get a yellow card.)

i expect lucho to start. and swap tevez and milito positions.
ayala need rest? he's capitan though. making burdisso organize defense will be big change.

also gago and mascherano should play more diagonal to each other, in order to control more area.

but basically, 4-1-1-2-2 (http://bp3.blogger.com/_r-wrhuVqNwk/RowJuxL6UHI/AAAAAAAAAJM/3Wzk7Tkulj4/s1600-h/ranger.jpg), no fundemental difference from yours.

(AFP)

It should be an intersting game, maybe we will see Pipino getting some playing time.

this is not a beauty contest, Paraguay plays with an istyle of its own that is more effective than a lot of "pretty teems" and is somebody has a problem with that, well you can watch Miss USA

U mean having 8 goals in 2 games and 1 agaisnt?? R U sure U are not a spazzo trying to pass as an Argentinian fan?? cause U sure sound like one.

I think he means negative in a strategic sense, not in a derogatory sense. It is no secret that Paraguay's strategy is focused primarily on destroying first rather than creating, and being opportunistic.

It is not a bad connotation, it certainly works very well for Paraguay, so they should be commended for executing that style of play so well.

It works for Paraguay because they have dangerous players who can execute and take advantage of this strategy to its fullest. That is how they scored eight goals in two matches.

Sanchez is a riot. I don't think he really believes that, but he hopes his players are naive enough to believe it, or maybe he is grandstanding for the Mexican fans.

Granted, Mexico has played well so far, but I don't think Argentina and Paraguay are too concerned to avoid Mexico. right now the main concern is to rest the players who are fatigued, and move on. As far as Argentina goes, we'll play whoever they put in front of us, we need to beat everybody in order to win the title. I'm sure the Paraguayans feel the same way.

I'm Actually glad Mexico is playing "good", if he bummed this Copa America, he would have gotten fired and he is too funny I love watching him making excuses for his sorry ass team.
As for this game, this should be an interesting one, since there will be subs in both sides and all of them will be trying their best to make an impression, so hopefully we will see a good game tomorrow or if we don't I would still take the points:)
