No doubt similar threads exists somewhere but I guess the subject will be raised again and again (Feel free to merge)...

FIFA or rather Blatter have gambled everything on South-Africa being able to host the WC 2010 despite all the naysayers. So in a way itīs an all or nothing situation for Blatter.
Most people point at Infrastructure, stadiums and crime as the big hurdles, stadiums are planned and are being built, so what about crime and infrastructure?

Iīll start the thread with a downer...sorry!

Rising murders a blow to SAfrica crime war

By Paul Simao
PRETORIA, July 3 (Reuters) - Murders, carjackings and violent robberies rose in South Africa in the past year, dealing a blow to efforts to reduce one of the world's highest crime rates before the country hosts the 2010 soccer World Cup.

Wait, crime is an issue in South Africa? Stop the presses! I had no idea!

I'm so sick of these stories. On the one hand, I hope they don't scare people away because people need to travel to make the atmosphere great. On the other hand...more tickets for me.

The country is poor??? mmm, I wonder http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=555579, www.southafrica.info

By the way the crime stats for the past year have been released and yes it was very bad last year which triggered BSA, Business South Africa, Primedia and other Private and Public sectors to join hands anc come up with differents strategies to fight crime. Sunday Times, www.sundaytimes.co.za, our local newspaper wich is very negetive towards the ruling party had an article about crime this past weekend and they also mentioned that the major improvement that we all have seen this year will never be part of the stats.

I guess the best thing that all the naysayers must actually follow the stats every year. I must say that this year is a very good year for the country and I can't wait to see this year's stats.

Let's not worry about it. I am looking forward to a great world cup, on and off the pitches.
