It was on this day that the USS Vincennes shot down a Iranian airliner killing 290 passengers , 38 non-Iranians and 66 children in the Persian Gulf . During the early days , the US said the ship was not in Iranian waters but that turned out to be false when the murderous Capitan of that ship finally admitted he was in fact in Iranian waters. What angered me the most was the fact that all the crew and the Capitan of the ship received medals for killing 290 innocent people . The US claimed that they thought the plane was a F-14 Tomcat but how in hell are you going to mistake a tomcat with a Airbus with all the toys and the gadgets that the ship had . Till this day I believe this was an intentional act . And lets not forget a short time prior the USSR shot down a South Korean airliners killing innocent people and the U.S was the biggest basher of the USSR when that occurred but when they did the same thing , they cleverly went into their shell and denied everything that occurred .

I find it hilarious that I get 2 neg raps from the same old members who accuse me of being anti-American . To be fair , I will point out that throughout my life in the US many Americans have apologized to me for that day , this shows that Americans are sincere people care about others

I remember that when I was a kid, seeing it in the paper. And no it wasn't intentional, just a major ********up by some morons on the ship.

You talking as if you know ever little dirty secret that goes on in Washington , I think it was intentional and so do millions if not billions of people around the world , its simple minded people like you who cant grasp the truth .

The US at first said the ship was in international waters and you and everyone else in the US probably believed them but that turned out to be false , why didn’t the US government tell the truth at the first? And why did Bush say “ I don’t need to apologize for America” what kind of a leader would say that after killing 300 people? The same goes with the most recent incident with the British sailors , People like you believed the Brits when they said we were in international waters but were slowly beginning to the see the cover ups and the Brits admitting they were in Iranian waters but you don’t see that in the headlines because the Western media is too busy creating hate between Westerners and Middle Easterners , they don’t see the truth , their media is just as biased as the Middle Eastern media, they don’t want to report anything that might portray counties like Iran as right .

You're claiming the United States intentionally and obviously murdered 290 Iranian civilians, and now covers it up, and you're calling HIM simple minded?

I offer no excuses, it was an awful event, far, FAR from my country's finest moment, and I feel nothing but sympathy for the victims and condemnation for those US servicepeople who both comitted the act, then tried to justify it later on. But jesus. Does the term insecure paranoia mean anything to you?

Maybe you should read your president's supposed apology for the incident.. what kind of a prick will call killing 290 innocent ppl "the propel course of action"... before questioning anyone here you should read up about the incident... although all the evidence regarding Vincent being in Iranian waters magically disappeared but you should maybe take a trip to the location and see how hard it was for the naked eye to "not" see the commercial airplane before shooting it down...

If you are gonna ask any Iranian to change their views towards things maybe you should start the charity at home... by the same token that US gets to accuse Iran to all the "evil" in the world without any significant proof us Iranians can blame the US government based on actual proofs!

I saw a programme on this showing the original footage and analysing it. The conclusion was that in fact it was a major screw up but it was an English/American programme. One of the things I will never comprehend is that the plane was sending out a signal saying it was a commercial flight. Apparently there was some confusion with that, but when the Vincennes tried to contact the plane to say it should identify itself, they only used military frequency which the plane of course was not monitoring. After a couple of requests on the military frequency, the plane was deemed hostile. By any standards, that's more than just a screw up. It's a HUGE screw up and warrants a proper apology and more than a few heads on the ship rolling. But far from me to bring out the tin foil hat just yet.

valanjak, don't even start with the 15 sailors because that was a whole different ball game.

Don’t tell me what to start and what not to start because the 2 situations had their differences and similarities . This incident was catastrophic and lives were lost but the Brits were and still are just as a ignorant as the US government was during this incident so its fair to compare and contrast both situations .

i'm not too sure why i decided to peep in and take a gander at the Iran NSR board, but I must say i had never heard of this incident and it explains a hell of a lot of anti-american sentiment coming out of Iran. While i cannot fathom a US military representative intentionally killing civilians for no reason, this still sounds like one of the worst atrocities our nation has ever committed. I truly hope in my heart that one day we can get past all of the mistakes of the past. I, for one, harbor no resentment of any kind towards Iran or its people. Our two cultures have so much we could learn from one another and it is truly sad that incidents like this ever occurred.
