Now that the tribunal mess is over, we need to concentrate on shoring up our back line; we've signed 2 midfielders (Parker and Faubert) and presumably will lose Reo-Coker and maybe Mullins, and we have Neill and Upson hopefully fully fit. My concern is the middle of the last line of defence; we conceded 59 goals last season, and this is simply not good enough by far! And we had a great goalie, too!
Any thoughts about this?

I think that most of the blame, or at good deal of it, rests on the shoulders of the midfield. They were not good for 3/4 of last season. Couple that with the injuries to Anton and Gabbs, and it gets easy to understand. We never had a left back either. Konch was AWOL for most of it and he didn't want to know when Curbs came in.
The later part, they looked good. We were still missing Upson and Gabbs, but I though Collins and McCartney were brilliant. Neill too. Full backs are vital and the lack of them caused us to go down last time.
We are looking very strong, I think and I await th new season with a strange air of confidence. I may even start another match thread. Lol.

I hope we manage to get Appiah the Ghana captain. (hope i have not got my countries mixed up again).
Also like to see another LB come in and a striker. My guess is Bellamy will sign tomorrow.

We haven't landed the brilliant striker or even an additional upwardly mobile one we'll need if (I'm feeling like when) Carlos bolts. Also, everyone on the board posted madly about needing a right winger, SW Phillips pursuit, etc. That hasn't been filled, either.

the whole starting 11, well... take out 3 players from that. parker, neil, ashton. i dont count tevez, reo coker, benayoun (SP?) because i dont see them staying. :D

I'll bet he looks like Beaker.
Isn't Faubert a right winger? It sounds like he can play right wing-back at a pinch too.
