Anybody know the story here? "The Real Peter Ing" at U-Sector wrote in the "Ask Marc and Paul" thread about Canadian fans being battered bloody by some Chileans.
Marc seemed to acknowledge that this occurred and that steps are being taken.
Did any of you see what happened?

Not a clue. And I stayed around the stadium for about 20-30mins after the final whistle. I know a lot of Chileans were still in the stadium walls cheering and singing and enjoying the victory but everything seemed like friendly excitement.

didn't see anything. i heard lots of bad mouthing by chilean fans but that was the extent of it... from what i saw.
i can see how this could possibly happen though... a 3-0 defeat on canada day, lots of beers, support from both sides and what seemed to be a somewhat confrontational chilean crowd.
i tell ya if there were some rowdier chilean guys in our section that something might of busted up there because there were quite a few upset canadians including myself who were on edge.

I was in 120 about half way up from the pitch. Lots of support for Chile which was a disappointing surprise, however everything was friendly.

I was around the stadium for 35mins after the game. Was happily surprised to see no fighting going on. This is the 1st I have heard.
All I saw was a bunch of very happy chileans chanting and some canadians looking in shock/awe and wondering if they were in Chile, instead of Canada. A lot of them shook hands with Chilean fans (me included) and said how surprised they were at the way we played.
If it did happen, it must have been a very isolated incident.

Man, its one thing for those people to live in Canada and support a national team of their choice, but it is a completely different thing for them to support a team playing AGAINST Canada AND go on to taunt the Canadian fans. If I were there, I too would be pissed if my team was losing by 3 goals, which is pretty bad by itself, and hear some drunken Chilean-Canadians who would rather support Chile taunt me with stuff like "Canada is only good for hockey".

I believe jpg75 told a story of getting into a fight over on the Vs. We'll see if he tells it here too.

Yeah, some chubby biatch started taunting my dad and i had to put him in his place. My dad was pretty vocal about the diving and the guy in front was kind of talking back about Canada sticking to Hockey and Chile was schooling us etc. Then after the third goal he started pointing his finger in my dads face and i lost it. I ended up shoving the guy and getting in his face and pretty much emotionally exploded on the guy. His wife stepped between us and she had her flag cocked back to hit me with it! I basically berated them both and then the rest of the Chilean fans started taunting me and booing me. So i frickin' lost it even more and started doing the Degeneration X "suck it" thing and started yelling out f-chile, putas and stuff and challenged a couple of the guys in the stands around to do something about it and try being a tough guy etc.
No one wanted to fight me...

I was in section 110. The guy who got taunted my dad was about 5'8' 200lbs. and was a round mound, he was lunch. Then Captain Chile booing me with face paint and flag cape a few rows below me got an earful from me, he was about 19-21 and like 5'11' 160, he was breakfast. There was a hispanic-Kenny Holtz lookalike from kenny vs. spenny, he was about 40 and he was dinner. The only guy who looked to be a worthy fight was with his kids and he was also the only one who wasn't picking a fight with me.

I was in 120 as well and did not see anything much. I did see a few Chileans eggin' on some Canadians on to come down a few rows at 119 and they were giving each other the bird but nothing came of it.

Ok, but if they live in Canada and love Canada like many of them do, it certainly does not mean that they will suddenly stop loving their own nation. They have every right to support Chile in any game they want.
I was at the game and took part in many of the chants before, during, and after the game and did not see any taunting at all by the Chileans. I did see a couple of little kids booing me and the other Chileans and one fat guy with glasses saying "It'll be a tough loss Chile, you're gonna lose 2-0...2-0!!" but that was about as close to taunting or provoking as it got in the whole game...at least near my section.
In fact I noticed that the majority of the crowd near my section wanted to simply enjoy the game, however, I found a video of a drunk Canadian guy saying some mean stuff during the game that I actually remember seeing after the game. But there's dumbasses everywhere and he certainly does not represent the majority of the Canadian people.
Here's the vid:

I actually saw a lot of stuff I liked in Toronto, which is supposed to be the most Americanized city of Canada. I saw a lot of interracial couples who were not given dirty looks by others in the street and I also saw several groups of teenagers from many different racial backgrounds hanging out together. That is a little unusual in the US. I also watched CBC after the game and was very surprised to actually hear people talk about immigrants in their own national day, you don't see that very often in the US either. It also surprised me to see so many people actually walking in the street and being able to simply stare wherever they wanted, including at people, and when eyes met, people would simply wave or smile. That is often seen in Chile and most South American nations but staring is kind of disliked by most Americans.
So, I don't know maybe all these events were a coincidence and I got a false perception of Canadian but from what I saw the Canadian society seemed to be, at least in my opinion, a lot more different than that of the United States.

Toronto is a very international city. Canada has a much different situation with immigrants and minorities than most of the US. We tend to encourage diversity, rather than force all to become one as is the 'melting pot' mentality in the US.
Multi racial families are very common in Canada and not given much thought really (in urban areas anyway). I live in a city that most Canadians would call the furthest of the right wing in Canada (Calgary) and my kids have absolutely no clue as to what 'racism' is. Chinese, East Indian, Black or whatever, they all get along, hang out together, play together etc. Good to see Chile through to the quarters. They are a great young team.

Agreed. I immigrated to Canada and I can recall when Canada met Holland in pre WC match. I had a difficult time with the match I wanted the country of my birth to win and I wanted my home Canada to do so as well. I cheered for both sides, enjoyed the Holland win but would've been delighted had Canada won.
Many Chileans came to this country as refugees to see them to turn their back on the country that took them in was disgusting, really if you still love your homeland more than your new home please go back there.
