This may not have any actual Revelution connection, but it mentions New England as many times as the Fowler story does...

    Lisbie Leaves Charlton
    by Peter O'Rourke 06/30/2007

Charlton have just released Kevin Lisbie, Jimmie Floyd Hasselbaink, Talel El Karkouri and Thomas Myhre.

After being relegated, they're obviously trimming some the larger salaries off their rosters. None of those guys suck either.

I wonder if the Revs have offered him anything.

If clubs don't want him, it makes the chances of him coming here even more greater.

I'm you're anxious to keep thinking about the Revs' loss to Chivas, Andrea Canales has some additional quotes from Nicol up on her blog.

Posted this in the News section but here you go....

Just to get your blood pressure going, read this one from our local "alternative" weekly. The sports section is where the interest lies, read about how soccer and Europeans are somehow ruining the NBA.

    Boston Phoenix- "America Blows"

I don't even know where to start....

Oh God..I would hope that Nicol isn't looking for more scorers! I would think of him as more intelligent than that!!

Ok..We have a good record so far and we've scored goals..so I don't think an aging scorer is what we need.

Give me an aging, slow midfielder with vision and I'll accept that...

I don't get this. And I've read it many many times over the last couple of weeks.

Why not get another scorer? Does it somehow hurt the team? If you've got the options, yes, there's more important needs. But if the only real option winds up being a Fowler, you guys are nuts if you don't think he'd help this team.

We create lots of chances for our forwards but their converson rate is poor. If we can sign a forward who can score a significantly higher percentage of his chances--like FOWLER--this team would be verrrry hard to beat.

How about we try to try someone who is younger and actually wants to play in MLS rather than a Euro retread who seems to looking for a few extra bucks before he retires to the Liverpool supporter convention circuit.

I agree. I'm not interested in some half-season Euro player edging toward retirement.

    I don't believe he'd help "this" team..IMHO

As was stated before...Scoring and Finishing is not the biggest negative that this team has. As far as someone like Fowler being a marketing plus..I don't see that either. This team needs a left sided attacking mid. This team needs a field general with vision and skill. This team needs 1 or 2 more quick and positionally good defenders. This team needs a couple of multi faceted mids who can come off the bench in a pinch.

This team does not need another forward...sorry..I just don't see that need, right now, this season!

    I agree completely.
IMO, what this team first is a left wing mid.

Second (though not by much) would be a scorer - preferrably a forward.
Cristman is doing great for a rookie - but he's not the man yet.
Noonan isn't up to form yet - and may end up being more of a midfield option.
Twellman is one of the top forwards in the league.

    They need another scorer.

After that, I would say the team needs another holding mid option, since Joseph may be gone at some point, and we've seen how precarious the team's depth is at this position.

Attacking mid? Sure, it would be nice. But I think experience has shown this doesn't necessarily fit in Nicol's overall vision.

    An aging slow midfielder? Fugetaboutit.

    Oh that's wonderful...

    Most recent homestand.

Score 3 goals vs. a very good KC defense...but allow 4 goals for a loss.
    RSL - score 0 allow 0
    Columbus score 3 allow 3
    Toronto score 3 allow 0...

    9 goals scored 7 allowed...1 win 1 loss 2 ties...

    Yea..we need another forward!

I hope that Steve is smarter than that..bolster the defense and midfield..leave the scoring machine alone.

BTW: my wanting an attacking mid and left sided mid..may score a few goals while their at it also!

Robbie Fowler is one of the great goal poachers of all time. He can flat out finish as well as anyone I've ever seen.

I wouldn't be so quick to write him off. He's gotten a bit slow for the pace of the EPL, but I think he'd absolutely clean up in MLS. He's better than Angel.

He's also one of most notorious bastards in the sport, with a a questionable work ethic and "me-first" attitude. His skill is undeniable, it's the extra baggage I question. Angel wanted to come to MLS. I get the impression Fowler wants to go someplace for an easy paycheck.
