TOKYO, June 21 (Reuters) - Italian club Sampdoria have agreed to sign Japan striker Atsushi Yanagisawa on a one-year loan, a Japanese newspaper reported on Saturday.
Yanagisawa is set to join the newly promoted Serie A club from Kashima Antlers early next month in a deal worth around $450,000 to the 26-year-old, according to the Nikkan Sports daily.
Sampdoria, who won promotion to the top flight this season after a four-year absence, have agreed to pay Kashima $350,000 with an option to sign the player on a full transfer.
Yanagisawa, who has scored nine goals in 31 games for Japan, could have joined Italian rivals Perugia in 2001 but opted to stay with J-League club Kashima ahead of the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea.

Is this a good move?
I was hoping for Guti.

One thing I know is it'll mean a lot more interest in Sampdoria in Japan. I suppose if they buy lots and lots of shirts, that's a good thing. I noticed the other day that the ONLY ITEM you can order on-line at the "Reggina Store" at their official website is a Nakamura replica.

How many non-Euros can Sampdoria add?
It will mean a lot of merchandise sales, but if the kid can't play it may backfire.

Sampdoria have been tracking Yanagisawa for a while now and they understand what they're getting with him. He's more of a withdrawn forward/attacking mid than an true striker, but he's certainly capable of getting the ball in the net.
After mistakes made by Bolton, Genk and Portsmouth, I'm sure Sampdoria know that you can't just sign a Japanese player and expect jerseys to fly off the shelves.

You would hope, but mistakes are still made.
I hope he does well, we need a good season.

More Samp targets - Diana, Doni, and Kallon.

Diana was one of three players Parma loaned to Reggina in the second half of this season. Goal-scorer Bonazzoli was given most of the credit for saving Reggina, but defender Diana was a big part of the turn-around as well. His signing is expected to be announced on Monday.

This is good stuff from Samp. I'm not sold on Doni, but worth a shot.

Aimo Diana in the back and Mohammed Kallon as well as Bonazzoli! wow! looks pretty good, at least to aim the UEfa spots!

I don't think Bonazzoli is on the list, but he should be.

Yeah, I didn't mean to suggest Bonazzoli was targeted. I think be'll back at Parma, especially if they sell Mutu.

D'uh my bad, I should read carefully.
Is there interest in Mutu besides Milan?

Will Adriano leave Parma? return to Inter?

Both (Inter and Parma) own him, but I dont think he'd welcome the idea of being benchwarmer, who are the fwds in the nerazurri? Bobo, Crespo, Kallon, Morfeo, Martins, maybe if a couple of strikers get sold/loaned.

Maybe Parma has to open up the checkbook and buy the other half.
Very crowded at Inter...maybe Juve could buy him and sell Trezeguet.

The Yanagisawa signing will supposedly be made official tomorrow. Meanwhile, Doni's move to Samp from Atalanta has been confirmed.

Are Sampdoria rich? Some of the names that are mentioned here (Doni, Kallon, Adriano, etc) aren't exactly bargain basement items, especially for a club that's just coming back to Serie A.

the club has more money than many clubs. Not a top 5 club...yet, but working on getting there.
