Missed yesterday. Didn't feel like paying $10.95 for internet access in Burlington, VT. Not a great showing for the U-20s. Korea looked like they could play well in England. Long Ball All Day.

Met Sunil between games. Very nice man and we're in good shape with him at the top. He said Hello.

Might want to add this one in... (chuckle)

Seems like anyone who has played football even remotely in the US are now predicting doom and gloom for Beckham. Sigh...

Even though there's some definite hyperbole in the article, he doesn't say anything about buses.

What rodney forgot to mention is that there is going to be talking from people who just crawled out of a rock, trying to give advice to someone who I am sure does not need it. With the amount of experience Beckham has its a bit disrepectful for people undermining his decesion..I am sure Beckham knows exactly what he got himself into.

I dont understand why this travel thing is such a big issue, all our pro sports teams have done it for years and years and years.

We tend to forget how big the U.S. to Europeans. When I lived in Ireland you could drive across the country in about 45 minutes. So, yeah, that's a huge difference to a pro athlete.

But something tell's me Dave is not going to be jammed into coach like the rest of us peons.

Just to get your blood pressure going, read this one from our local "alternative" weekly. The sports section is where the interest lies, read about how soccer and Europeans are somehow ruining the NBA.

Boston Phoenix- "America Blows" (http://thephoenix.com/Article.aspx?id=42670&page=1)

Soccer is the world’s most popular sport, no contest. Billions watch it, play it, and obsess over it, from dusty Mexico City lots to punter-packed Irish pubs. Everyone, that is, except us. (Notwithstanding, of course, the morbid fascination of watching David Beckham and his dead-eyed, unsmiling wife colonize Los Angeles.)
Now, some may argue that this is precisely why America rocks. We have no time for foofy foreign fare like the so-called football of overseas. We invent our own damn sports! Baseball. Basketball. American football. Sports in which — unlike soccer — scoring is not a freak occurrence, but in which points or runs can come by the bucketful.

Writing on the Cackamasaurus blog last month, proprietor “Bill Brasky” issued an impassioned cri de cœur:

European athletes are ruining the NBA. Soccer, the sport of Europe, considers the worst elements of human nature to be “just part of the game” . . . (1) flopping, (2) dirty play aimed at injuring the opposition, and (3) constantly whining at the refs. Now, I know that these things existed before the European invasion of the NBA, but now this type of play seems [suddenly] to be accepted. All one has to do is look at the San Antonio Spurs. These guys should be in the goddamn World Cup with cleats on, not on a basketball court. . . . I think this “Europitis” is contagious. We need to quarantine these mother********ers before their disease kills the rest of the NBA.

Au contraire, Mr. Brasky, that’s not the problem. It’s that the American talent can’t catch up to the Steve Nashes, Yao Mings, Dirk Nowitzkis, and Pau Gasols of this global village. The teams that stink? The Knicks, the Timberwolves, the Pacers, the Clippers? All finished at or near the bottom of their divisions, and, with one or two exceptions, have rosters that are all-American.

Whew...

For me, the only thing the Phoenix has been good for is to see what bands are playing in Boston.

"random British ex-pats who insult American soccer will be quoted"

I wish I had not read that "article"...I am surprised he did not say Beckham will not be able to comprehend multiple time zones

I was actually reading it because a former co-worker-turned-comedian is in and I then I just scanned the rest of it...

but yeah, I normally just read it for bands.

This writer is the poor man's Charlie Pierce.
And to think that trees died so that this "typing" could exist.
Feel sorry for you bastards in Boston - a dumbed-down Boston Globe, and I see the Phoenix is up to their usual lack of standards. Slaves of Mindich...
and if you get the NY Times, you get the crap national edition, wherfe the movie ads all read like a Disney commercial ("now playing at a theatre near you...")
