I was watching Fox Soccer Channel yesterday, and the show was about Beckham playing American Football and a American Football guy (black guy named Busch or something?) playing soccer.

Apparently, Beckham was taking some field goal kicks and he tied the NFL record on his first day playing. Given he wasnt wearing any protection, but I thought that was an amazing feat.

Perhaps Juninho, Roberto Carlos or Beckham should play American Football as a kicker after their finished with soccer. I heard quite a few soccer players in America end up becoming field goal kicker. Any of those three players I think would re-write the field goal history records. Now, Roberto Carlos could probably score from the other end of the field.

yo dumbass. It was an Adidas Advert. It's Reggie Bush (he just happens to be the most promising player in the NFL). And It's not just the Pads, but The Snap, The Hold, and the 20 people standing in front of you... 11 of which are trying to block it in about 1 second.

There's no money in kicking field goals. That's the only problem. A lot of soccer players in the US end up kicking in football because there is less money in soccer, but yeah it would be kick ass to see some of those guys in the NFL.

Black? I don't see people's colors.

I don't think kicking a ball puts you at risk of catching an STD.

was that an ad? It sure didnt look like an ad. The show was called "football meets football" and those two guys doing all the new reporting actually introduced the show.

And dumbass, if other people can do it, why wouldnt the soccer players be able to do it. When a guy comes in and hits the NFL record on their FIRST DAY of kicking American Football, it can be assumed that he will learn to adjust to the game.

You are just soar because soccer players have better kicking abilities than Football players. Not putting down the sports, as i doubt one in a hundred soccer players could succeed in any other position, but when it comes to taking field goals, i think they could succeed to heights never seen before.

I'm sure Beckham would make a great Field Goal kicker but breaking the NFL record in practice means nothing. Many of the current NFL kickers can fairly consistently hit 60+ yard Field Goals in practice with no wind. You don't see it happen in games partly because its much harder to do with the pressure of a real game and partly because NFL coaches don't like to take the risk of turning the ball over in good field position if its missed and so would rather punt the ball.

It's a different technique - 1.5 step approach, smaller margin for error because the ball shape means that the foot has less surface area and time of contact w/ the american football, flight characteristics of the two kinds of ball are different, higher trajectory of field goal kick in order to clear defensive line, etc.. Your points about game pressures are also well taken.

Not to say that it can't be learned, it obviously can and has been by many. I kicked in college, while rehabbing from knee surgery before rejoining the soccer team. It's an interesting conversion, and challenging. Tony Meola tried it w/ the Jets, it obviously didn't work out too well.

NO MONEY IN FIELD GOALS? are you crazy...Olindo mare makes 2 million a year! besides soccer leagues in EUROPE no one pays soccer players that. In argentina highest paid player barely makes 1 million and PLAYS ALL YEAR. kickers kick in 16 games!

When MLS first started in 1996, one of the Metrostars' players was in an ad where he juggled the ball on his feet for a while and then lobbed it through a basketball hoop. Take from that whatever you will.
