Gano, medio gusto y y goleo. Pero ay que despertarse y jugar mejor. Paraguay y Colombia me parece ser pezes faciles...

For the Riquelme haters, he was involved in all 4 goals:
1. Free kick that setup Crespo first goal
2. He made a pass to Messi that open him up and then Messi worked his magic led to Crespo's 2nd goal.
3. He made a pass to a wide open Heinze who was running down the field and that setup Aimar's goal.
4. He made the pass to Tevez.
In all he played a good game , he doesn't have to dominate in a team that has many stars.
i think the worse player was Veron and Milito played to shaky... yellow and a pk called...
USA with their youngsters played well the first half.

Congrats. We were in deep with our B/C squad against you guys. I was proud of how our guys played for the most part. Our marking loosened up after about 60'. Our RB received his first cap tonight...Argentina did well to switch the point of attack and catch him out of position several times (like the Aimar goal). Crespo was clinical. Riquelme quietly had a very solid match. Zanetti dispossessed our LM every time he went down the flank. Your players ran well off-the-ball all night.
We didn't sub well, and I thought your coach did. I think we played better than the 4-1 score indicates, but you guys definitely deserved to win. Hopefully our young guys will learn from the experience & play better against Paraguay. Good luck.

Not a fireworks game by Argentina, but I'll take it any day. Hoping the team will improve in their building of attacks (ball control was awesome as usual, though).
The Roman bashing out there is just irrational and quite annoying in the end. I can't understand how people keep their club-biased views when discussing the NT. Roman is an awesome player, and the best we have at directing the game.
I just hope that our guys don't get too overconfident, because I think this was the easiest team we will have to face in this tournament. No offense intended to USA who did what they could with a young and inexperimented squad, but these guys hardly threatened us. Surprisingly, when they had a few chances to pass our defense and shoot, they would turn back and wait.
I haven't seen Colombia or Paraguay play lately, but I can imagine these guys have much more hunger for goals and will fight harder.

As a first run out this will do me. The team will get better and stronger as the tournament progresses. :D

I dunno Leon, I think the first half we were piss poor:( . Sure the Usa fought a brave fight and we played a team we knew little about, but i think we were going through the paces for the first half and not looking good defencively at all. In fact I think a few times we were caught way up and if it was any other team with more experience we would have been left with egg on our face. The second half i think we strted coming inot the game a lot more and switching Messi to the other side helped, Howevwer, I do not like the formation, to akward and a few bodies out there wasting time, ( Veron, Cambiasso, and Messi) all of them could be utilised better and I was dissapointed at Milito, I think Mascherano saved his arse a few times!! We need to improve , having said this I still think we have some of the best individual skills out there and technical ability up the ass!!

El viejo,
I'll give the same reply to you as I did to ASF: :D
ASF,
Argentina did what they had to and won easily. You can't ask for more from the first game in a tournament. There is no point in playing like world beaters now only to dissapoint later, I'd rather Argentina start of slowly and then get better and better throughout the tournament, which I am sure they will.

Well I did point out was the flaws of wich there certainly was some. Keep in mind that the first half we looked poor against a team full of inexperienced youngsters of certainly not the same caliber as ours. We could ill afford to repeat these mistakes against Paraguay or say Mexico if we meet them.

To be fair viejo we have played well in the recent past only to lose, so I'll settle for us not playing particularly well and winning 4-1. Look at Brazil, they actually played well but lost 2-0.
At the risk of repeating myself, it's all about peaking at the right time in a tournament, and I'd rather Argentina saved their best performance for the final. :D

man the first half I was so pissed....especially with Milito, that dude seriously is a weak link in the defense at times, you just cannot foul a dude from behind in the penalty box I rather he let him shoot, that is much easier to miss than let him kick a penalty where he has plenty of time to think where to kick plus earning a yellow card. Zanetti was a workhorse. Messi explosive as ever. I wonder if instead of subbing messi basile would have subbed crespo for tevez, it would have been interesting.

Personally I would rather see this line up:
---------------Pato-------------
Zanetti------------Ayala-----------Milito-----------Heinze
------------Gago---------------Mascherano-------------
Messi---------------Riquelme------------------Tevez
---------------------Crespo---------------------

I can't agree more with this lineup.
I thought mascherano was our best player last night. he did his job as expected and did it well. Veron was to shakey for me and a I would love to see gago out there instead. Cambiasso was ok last night but I still don't like him in the starting 11. rather see him coming off the bench. I think the 4 guys upfront in that lineup is the way to go. With aimar being the first one coming off the bench. I think those 4 guys messi, tevez, riquelme and crespo are our 4 best attacking and most skillful players and all 4 of them deserve to be starting.(I would also include aimar being apart of one of our best attacking and skillful players). If they really learn how to click together than they are an absolute joy to watch and can make alot of teams look real silly out there. IMO we have the best chance of winning this tournament with those 4 guys on the field.

I agree with that lineup, specially the attacking quadrant. But if Veron is dropped (hope he is), I would rather see Cambiasso than Gago on that role alongside Masche. That is where he has performed for the last 2 years for both club and country (dont forget the WC) and he can do much better there instead of playing in the left wing as he was against the US.
I am not yet convinced enough by Gago, I admit I havent seen him play for Boca much, but to go by the last season, he has not shown enough quality YET to replace Cuchu in the starting lineup. Having said that, if we are looking forward to 2010 and want a future prospect, might as well start Gago now and start the two youngsters building a partnership in the centre of midfield.

3. That was Veron who passed it wide left to Crespo, who was standing there, then played the leading pass to Heinze :)
Requelme did play well though.

that's one of the best 4-2-3-1 but you're relying on messi and tevez to support (have to shoulder alot of defensive duty) instead of pure offense. Will those 2 guys do it? do they have the discipline to do it?
I can see messi doing it (it's still fundementally different from his position in 4-3-3, no xavi behind him), but tevez will probably just want to attack attack attack....

Rios, gotta disagree there with you, Tevez has shown a lot of balls this past season checking back and helping midfield/defence for westham, even in the first part of the season, when he wasnt playing very well attackingly(took his time to settle in), one thing he wasnt doing wrong was tracking back, so I think he can do a job.

Apart from the fact that he is a brilliant player, Tevez has the kind of never give up/fight to the last minute mentality that certain Argentinian players have lacked in the recent past. The bloke works his socks off, helps out the defence and can score and create goals, what more do you need.

guys, i'm not doubting tevez's defensive capabilities (speed, tackling, heart..), just his psychological preparedness to fill a more defensive role, and STAY low.
in west ham he dropped down the wings quite a bit, but that's partly due to his teammates' inability to give him the ball. When he got to the ball, he carried it forward. When he didn't, he left and went forward too. In the end, tevez still played an offensive role in west ham. he was rarely, if not never, seen at the WHU end of the pitch.

I know im a bit late on this but let me tell this clown something.
Funny how you come out saying to to you Riquelme haters, as if we mostly argentineans here want him to do bad for the NT, al contrario despite being a River fan I want whats best for our NT,always. I screamed his goals last vs Colombia just like I did when Palermo played in the NT in 99 just like I did Maradona back in the days, just like I did when Riquelme scored that golazo vs Brazil in the qualifiers in el Monumental, hate him when he has the boca jersey is a different story,it's a River-boca thing. A nivel seleccion I want whats best and if he is going to add positivie play to it,then he's more then welcome.
