For the she-hag is no longer ru(i)nning our fair city
Miller is out, Leppert is in.
Any step away from the horrendous reign of terror is a step in the right direction

I thought Miller did OK.

Much better than some of the yes-men the City had in the past.

all Dallas politics is a joke. That's why the city will continue to fail in areas that don't involve private industry only. I don't care who the mayor is because the Dallas City Council could make any Mayor look bad and tear any city business structure apart. It's like watching a third world government operate.

It could be worse. Parrothead will be coming back eventually, would you want him to be your mayor?

"Steal from the rich and give to the poor" would be his campaign slogan. :D

Hey now Parrothead is from the good side of the metroplex. The only reason he would ever become mayor of Dallas is to just assimilate it into Fort Worth, thereby renaming it East Fort Worth.

THe people of Dallas deserve what they get after failing to pass the Strong Mayor proposal. As long as this city is run by a collection of relatively unknown city councilmen with little accountability for their votes things will be mismanaged.

Indeed. The only mayors that have been able to get anything done are the mayors that have been able persuade and lobby and cajole the City Council into doing what they want.

Dallas needs a "strong mayor" form of government, but Laura Miller might've been quite possibly the worst mayor to advocate it. Ron Kirk might've been just a yes-man for the Dallas Citizens Council, but I'm pretty sure he could've gotten it passed. Hell, he managed to get funding for the AAC passed, which was nothing short of miraculous.

Kirk gave the keynote speech at my graduation, because he's an AC alum.

I would agree that she was the worst possible advocate....however, I witnessed a "strong mayor" vote in another city that did not have the personality issues of Dallas, and it's amazing how the special interests (i.e developers) get up to defeat these things. The money is behind keeping the power spread out, it's easier to influence voting that way. IMO, its hard in this day and age to get a strong mayor proposal passed. Who is providing the financial backing for the PR campaign?

Guess its a good thing the free market gets to choose for the citizens rather than the government they elected, huh?

Guess its a good thing the free market gets to choose for the citizens rather than the government they elected, huh?Right, and please show me where I suggested the market should dictate public policy over the objections of the electorate. In addition, this is actually the electorate making the decision, unfortunately it's an elecorate that is being swayed by certain unsavory elements of the market. In no way do I believe that market should have no limitations imposed upon it. On the other hand, I don't think limitations should be imposed upon the market EVERYTIME an issue arises. It's called "balance", look into it.

Ron Kirk looked good to Clinton as a political ally so that's why he and Henry Cisneros would make things happen for Ron. Then you had the AAC deal. The deal was good for Dallas, eventually, but good for Kirk's wife immediately.
Dallas should be renamed kickback. Oh yeah, before I forget, good ole Rich Rainwater is a Ft. Worth boy so don't paint the town of the cow with such a pretty paint unless it's cherry red as in the color of blood that flows down Cherry St on a daily basis.:( And if you are lucky enough to get shot there then you may get to take a trip to JPS where you may get shot again!
I can't stand Dallas or Ft. Worth.
Laura Miller's hubby, Steve Woolens, was not only a state congressman but he also worked at Baron and Budd (the toxic tort wonder boys). Fred Baron was Bill Clinton's largest private supporter for years and now is John Edwards largest contributor.

One big circle runs the Mayor chair. Wait and see how Leppert gets The Turner Corp some jobs in Dallas.
Ok that's the last time I think about Dallas politics for a while. The last time I spent much time wasting brain waves on Dallas was when I was working in the City Place tower and Kirk was using it as his PR center during his Senate push. Before that was back in 1994 when John Wiley Price put his hands on my hood at a red light before one of the World Cup games at the Cotton Bowl. I was amused at the time but I think if he were to use my car for the cameras again I would jump out and really make it interesting. Whew... rant over.
