Its a tad boring around here, so I want to get your brains working.
What in your opinion would the starting lineup look like for a World XI (presently)? No maybes, no player/player's. One player per position.
To make it more simple, just use the normal 4-4-2.
I am still thinking about mine, but i just wanted to get this started.

REAL quickly with no real thinking of actually cohesion or real order as far as out right, left or center.
Cech
Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Terry, Alves
Ronaldo, Gerrard, Messi, Kaká
Eto'o, Henry

----------Ruud-------Drogba-------
I still like Roberto Carlos. And presently i think he is the best on the wing in the back. I thought about Evra...but i couldnt do it. Terry and Canna are shoe ins. I really like Alves. C. Ron of course. I chose Lampard because I think he had a better season than Gerrard. I will take 21 goals any year from a center mid. Kaka of course. Messi for sure. Ruud went to Spain and ruled their league. And last but not least, the best striker last year hands down, Drogs. Oh and Cech....no disputing that.

Gerrard
Van Nistelrooy
Nasri
Malouda
Chivu
Puyol
Casillas
Yeah, it's full of attacking players, and Drogba and Klose would make a really bad partnership. Still, in my mind, these are the eleven most deserving players. Essien provides enough energy and covers enough ground in midfield to cover for the other three, who are all too attacking minded to really play together in that formation.

Sorry not sticking to the formation.

Ronnie-------------Totti---------Kaka

Zambrotta-------Terry----Nesta------------Miguel

Would it work? Not sure, dont care. I'd choose a fit Henry for my lineup, but Ill wait to see what thats like this season.

Lots of thought into this one...this would be the 18-man squad that I would select, as well as formation. I am taking into account playing style, personalities, etc.
.....................Petr Cech
Miguel...Cannavaro...Nesta...Zambrotta
..................Essien...Pirlo................
C. Ronaldo...........Kaka...........Messi
........................Drogba......
Bench
Buffon
Carvalho
Sergio Ramos
Gattuso
Gerrard
Ronaldinho
Eto'o
If needing to hold the lead in the second half (which would probably be the case):
.....................Petr Cech
Miguel...Cannavaro...Nesta...Zambrotta
................Essien...Gattuso...............
C. Ronaldo........Gerrard..........Messi
......................Drogba......
If needing a goal in the second half (which would probably never be the case):
.....................Petr Cech
.........Miguel...Cannavaro...Zambrotta
......................Essien...............
C. Ronaldo.........Kaka.......Ronaldinho
...........Messi....Drogba...Eto'o..........

How do people overlook John Terry?
I guess the 4-4-2 rule has been destroyed. Oh well its cool. Good looking teams. However, i saw one with Cristiano Ronaldo not even on the squad! How do you do that? He is in the top 5 or top 3 of best players in the world right now.

He's the most in form winger right now, I dont think he is one of the 5 best players in the world though, and my team didnt include wingers anyways, it is certainly no worse than including way past it Roberto Carlos in a team or expecting a midfield combo of Kaka-Lampard to work.
I understand guys like Cronaldo or MEssi are young and exciting, but Ronnie and Totti are still better overall players.

How anyone can say that C. Ron is not one of the top 5 if not top 3 players in the world is amazing. He carried Man U to the title.

He also failed in quite a few big games and was quiet versus most of his best competition.
There's more to it than playing against the less talented teams of the EPL week in week out.
Ill give you he is the best winger, but I think there are attackers out there consistently better than him, and who's to say he is better than the best CMs, defenders, and Gks of the world?

Oh lawd there is a lot of fail in this thread. Cannavaro? Give me a break. Lahm also had a dreadful season with Bayern and may be replaced by Janssen.
------------------Cech--------------------
Alves------Nesta-------Terry-----Zambrotta
--------------Essien----Pirlo---------------
Ronaldo------------Kaka----------Ronaldinho
-------------------Drogba------------------
I don't think Pirlo is dominating enough to get into the XI on merit, but his impact on a team is so huge that it's difficult not to include him. I also would have included Henry before but Drogba's strength and power is needed a team of nancy attacking midfielders, much easier decision after Henry's last season. My full-backs are probably too attacking so maybe Miguel for Dani Alves.
