Crazy. A fan jumps over the dugout to apparently beat up the Cubs pitcher after he gives up 6 runs in the 9th to go down 9-8. Out of nowhere the Bat Boy comes flying out and tackles him like something out of that Reebok add. The Bat Boy. Cubs scored 2 in the bottom of the 9th to win. I know this is a soccer website, but you wouldn't have believed what you saw.

so are you going to post a you tube link to this or what?

The problem is that 99% of the time MLB will not allow any recordings of fans going on the field.

I couldn't find anything on the tube.

Interesting article on Blanco. I've been watching him quite a bit since the Fire signed him. Nice free kicks, very active at baiting the referee, but I just don't see how he'll fit into MLS.

When is his first Fire game?

nice. although it didn't look like that guy was up to any harm prior to getting tackled. i'm guessing he was just heading out for a chat at the mound to see if the pitcher needed to be taken out or if he still had enough in him to face another batter.

did the pitcher stay in the game, and finish out the inning, before the Cubs comeback?

edit -- to answer this question, "yes": http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap;_ylt=Aj_AGxjyRYb6cTKLdE19beURvLYF?gid=270625116&prov=ap

-----------
After Tulowitzki's homer, a fan jumped onto the field from the roof of the Rockies' dugout and charged at Howry. The fan was just a few feet from the mound when security guards tackled him.

"As soon as I turned around the guy clotheslined him and took him down," said Howry, who hardly moved as the fan charged his way. "He said, 'What are you doing?' I'm trying to give up home runs, what do you think?"

The scene was eerily similar to when a fan, John Murray, attacked Cubs closer Randy Myers in September 1995.

"I don't think he was too threatening," Piniella said. "It is scary because you don't know."

Howry then got three outs in the ninth and ended up with a win after blowing the save.
----------------

so I guess the next question is whether this was indeed the bat boy who came to the rescue or if it was a security guard? maybe the clothesliner holds both part-time jobs simultaneously.

now, to get this back to a BS topic, is Budweiser still an MLS league sponsor?

edit: yes (if you trust page three of this write-up)

Looked like the bat boy to me.

They showed, repeatedly, the White Sox first base coach getting jumped by a drunk father and son a few years ago.

Good reactions by that bat boy... no one else even did anything and he was out there in a flash. Give that kid a raise.

Univision and TeleFutura certainly are having some nice success going up against network reruns. Mexico NT games are clearly a big draw for a growing portion of US television households.

I though Americans didn't like soccer and didn't care to view it on TV.

If some guy ran on the field during a soccer game then ESPN would show it 1,000 times and tell us how hooligans rule the soccer world.

That writer is about as clueless as anyone who thinks Chicago wasted money on Blanco.
