Right now Germany has the highest point/game (2.71) over the last two qualifying campings (19 in 7 game this time and 0 in 0 for 2006 WCQ). Netherlands (2.56), Sweden (2.47), Croatia (2.41) and Portugal (2.32) are following them.
yes but when it comes to handing out the four seeds for the tournament, doesn't the performances in the last two euros matter?

Yes, as EURO 2004 winner.Given this, if Greece qualifies then Austria, Switzerland and Greece are three of the four top seeds. In this case, being in pot 2 (best 2-5 teams) might be better than being the team with the best points/game and end up in pot 1.

AFAIK, all 4 pots are decided by straight points/game calculation using the qualifying games for the Euro and the last WC.

hmmm...and then the groups are decided as on that website? ie. a pot 2 team cannot be drawn against another pot 2 team?
so we know which teams we will avoid already then

Wait, so how will the group stage get drawn exactly?
I thought all the qualifieing teams (minus austria+swit) were gonna be drawn randomly into groups.

Article 7.04 from the EURO 2008 regulations (http://www.uefa.com/newsfiles/19079.pdf) (pdf file).
The seeded teams will be the host associations, with the reigning European champions if they qualify, and one or two teams with the best coefficients on the basis of the results achieved in the 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifying competition and/or in the qualifying competition for the 2006/2008 UEFA European Football Championship. The other finalists will be assigned to the four groups by means of a draw, according to their coefficients.
This means there will be four pots.

So the sexiest teams will be in the first pot.
Do we have an idea yet of which teams will be in pot 1?
Holland was undefeted in WK06 Qualifieing wern't we? And we are so far in EK08 so we should be in POt one. THis is good news. Group A would be ideal.. we get a free win against austria and I don't have to fly to bloody switzerland

the way things stand, austria, switzerland, greece if they qualify and germany will be in pot 1.

so hang on, how you did in the actual tournaments in 04 and 00 doesn't matter???
ie. uefa have a different system from fifa when it comes to determining the seeds?
Edgar

It doesn't. UEFA's seeding system is based on the performance in the last two qualifying competitions. For EURO 2008: the WCQ 2006 and ECQ 2008.

will they replace germany's 06 with the 04 one? as germany didn't have an 06 qualifying campaign

Quitte strange, it's better to be seeded in the second pot then the first.
The topseed will probably be in the group of death.

No, they will use only the ECQ 2008 results.

hmm...
i can usually understand the qualifying concept for the EURO's without too much trouble but 2008 has me stumped.
a lot of people keep mentioning france and italy but considering we(SCOTLAND) are going to take either first or second in the group then i can't quite figure out how both france and italy can make it as well....;)

For the last four I expect France, Germany ( to confirm their last WC ), the Netherlands ( young and a lot of talent ) and a surprise team like Sweden.
Italy : quarter final, never good after a good WC ( 1982 World Champion --> 1984 DNQ, 1990 semi-finalist --> 1992 DNQ, 1994 finalist --> 1996 1st round ).
England : DNQ.
Spain : quarter-finals, never good in the knock out stages
Portugal : quarter-finals
Eastern europe countries : one in quarter-finals, 1st round for the other one(s)
Greece and / or Turkey : 1st round
Host Countries : one in quarter-finals, 1st round for the other one
Denmark : DNQ.

No I normally think holland are very good and up there with the best teams, however they are not a part of the "elite" group of germany, france and italy who you sort of have the feeling that they won't screw it up and will go all the way to the final or win it.
France only recently by the way.
They had it until 1998.
You always have to consider Holland as one of the favourites.
('88-won/'92-semi finals after PK/'96-QF after PK/2000-semi finals after PK/2004-semi finals).
France is no elite group, they are too old, at the world cup that they got so far was a little bit of luck.
Germany, Portugal and Italy are good, Czech is the past. Sweden can get very far.
Turkey is coming with a very talented generation, you have to watch them.

With Walter Smith going to the Rangays, I don't see this happening. Although if you can knock out France be my guest!

france may be old but there still good, i think they'll go far even without zidane. portugal or germany are going to win.
