(RPP) El delantero Alvaro Recoba quedó definitivamente fuera del debut de Uruguay en la Copa América de Venezuela-2007, ante el Perú el martes, tras confirmarse que persiste el dolor que sufre desde el domingo a causa de una lesión muscular.

Su reemplazante será el delantero del Deporivo La Coruña español Fabián Estoyanoff, según voceros de la concentración charrúa, informó AFP.

La gravedad de la lesión de Recoba podrá establecerse recién el venidero miércoles cuando sea sometido a una resonancia magnética, según trascendió en el campamento de Uruguay, que realizaba un reconocimiento de la grama del estadio Metropolitano, de Mérida, la tarde de hoy.

El técnico uruguayo Oscar Washington Tabárez había advertido la noche del domingo en rueda de prensa de que "existe una posibilidad de que (Recoba) o juegue" por la lesión en la pierna derecha.

I see Bembasten is taking a very defensive approaching coming into this game.

Galliquio and Vilchez are more defensive laterales than say De la Haza & Cespedes. I like it. We need all the help we can get in defense.

I'm hoping for a win but a draw wouldn't be a bad result either.

Pizarro seguro de tumbar a charrúas

(Mérida) Tiene la clave para debutar con el pie derecho. Claudio Pizarro expresó que con tranquilidad e inteligencia Perú derrotará a Uruguay en el partido inaugural de la Copa América.

"Lucharemos por lograr una victoria ante Uruguay y empezar con buen pie esta Copa América. Nuestro objetivo es hacer historia y llegar a las instancias finales de dicha competencia", sostuvo Pizarro.

El capitán de la selección nacional, sugirió salir tranquilos al campo y jugar con confianza a Uruguay un equipo que nunca baja los brazos.

"El equipo está mentalizado en ganar, sabemos que tenemos calidad y estamos trabajando mucho para demostrarlo. Las cosas sucederán con naturalidad, nuestra afición está pendiente de lo que haremos en esta Copa América y por eso haremos las cosas con sentido", declaró el atacante nacional a RPP.

Asimismo, acotó que el equipo se ha preparado para ganar y que luchará por pasar a la siguiente fase del Grupo A, que integran también las selecciones de Uruguay y Bolivia.
